I could be wrong, but I tried logging in to it a few months ago and it wouldnt accept the password. The IP is still accepting remote connections though.

I'm downloading now anyway - we can easily sort a server out if the EG one's out of action.

According to that video, I was more of a "beginner" than I thought I was when I stopped playing TFC :(

Woah, I love the new art style. I've gotten sick of trying to be so serious all the time in these things. Definitely gets my vote.

    Other way around.

    Dust is 7 years old.

And how old is the TF2 production? What they had and did with the TF2 development ended up as small pieces in other projects they had.

It's been about 5 and a half years since those screens were released, I remember it well. there were TFC maps which used similar textures which predate de_dust. Badlands and Dustbowl spring to mind.

Actually de_dust has nothing to do with any of it.

TF2 started life around 1998, and won awards at the 1999 E3. I'm guessing they made some artwork for its development or had some as part of a toolkit for developers for other mods like CS.

A lot of people was disappointed when they only got TFC and not TF2 like they were waiting for.

Not as much as you'd have thought. The guys who made the CS maps didn't use any of the wads that were in TFC, they wanted realism instead, so they used the hl.wad to start with then made their own higher res textures for each map. I don't know of any cs map that borrows from TFC offhand; the two communities didn't mix well and there was quite a bit of rivalry at the time. Realism vs cartooney fun.

I can see it all cooking up again now TF2 is in the pipe and I think I know which one is going to win.

Realism has come to the ultimate conclusion that it's a load of old bollocks :)

Why are you talking about TFC? That's a almost a straight port from the original QuakeWorld TF Mod and has nothing to do with those early TF2 pictures. The early TF2 build won awards in the 1999 E3 at the same time as de_dust got released in an early CS beta version.

I love the look of that cel-strike too, hadn't seen that one before.

I'm a huge fan of cel-shading when it's done right. I was flicking through the official PS2 magazine yesterday (yes, yes, I know!) and they were condemning a game for using it and not looking realisitic. Idiots.

Aga, we're all talking about TFC, becuase after seeing those screenshots it'd be very unlikely if it didn't end up being very similar, just y'know, without the good bits.
Yes, but not connected to me commenting about old TF2 shots and similarties to de_dust.

Commenting on the new TF2 shot of the classes, it style looks from TFC with added cartoon feeling. Wonder if that is true for the environment aswell, or if you will have the same old fortress feel to it.

Am I the only one that remembers the cartoony, primary colour-soaked graphics of TFC?

This style suits Team Fortress perfectly for me. As long as the game dynamics are still as addictive and fun as they were 8 (?) years ago, I'll be happy to invest in this.

    amen to that

that looks absolutley brilliant, perfect choice of art style. I cant really believe we're going to get this, portal, cs:source and hl2, ep1 and ep2 in one box for 360. Seems too good to be true.

OMG That teaser is awesome, cel shaded stuff with the Source engine is like a licence for me to give people money.

That looks great, lets hope you can still hop from one end of a map to another with the concussion grenades.
