Downloading stuff = Bad but I spend most of my monies on stuff I can and the rest I dont care (plus most people do stuff I dont morally agree with, it's all subjective). And erm I dont do it much anymore thanks to my ISP telling me off (and there is only one ISP here so if I got disconnected no more ADSL).

Downloading stuff and paying for the right (newsgroups) = too far. (imo). I have friends who do it, and love it. But it just doesent settle for me.

The whole thing is just a farce, I would love to see Google taken to court in the US because oh noes! they show links to naughty files.

They should be arrested for aiding every type of pirating in the world, kiddie porn, the lot.

I dug into my CD collection the other day and had a little chuckle to myself as I had left the sticker on several of them.

16.99 for Back to Mine mixed by faithless? It's a good album, but it wasn't worth seventeen pounds eight years ago. At least musical artists seem to be making money out of live performances.

So what exactly is the difference between google and TPB? Other than corporate leverage and mission statement?

Doesn't seem like anything will happen to TPB anyway.

    Intention really...

Pirate Bay is set up to index torrents (the evil).

Google is set up to index everything (good and evil).

Yes Yes I know not all torrents are evil, but Im taking it from the point of view of this case

Meh. My empathy is limited. Don't know enough about the details to know how ridiculous or not ridiculous the decision is.

So what exactly is the difference between google and TPB? Other than corporate leverage and mission statement?

For starters, Google reacts to claims of copyright infringement.

    Google search: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" mp3 "pearl jam"
    - and bang, i have some unfortunate pearl jam on my pc.

Surely they're assisting the distribution of media as much as TPB. But i can imagine the google lawyers have a slightly bigger budget then the TPB guys.

Regardless of the name and content, it is still simply a tracker site.

Isn't it a bit like fidning the highways agency/goverment or whoever guilty for drivers braking the speed limit?
