I know this has just appeared on the front page, but there's more to the story which deserves better discussion away from the Halo people. Namely... the full thing:

"The May issue of EGM, which we're thumbing through right now, hints that before Final Fantasy XII is released in the U.S. Square Enix plans to unveil Final Fantasy XIII at this May's E3. This issue also reveals in its rumor mill section that we should "expect a brief teaser video and confirmation from the publisher that the RPG will be a PS3 exclusive."

This corroborates rumblings we've heard that Final Fantasy XIII is practically close to being finished, and Square has been holding off on revealing it until FFXII (which was delayed several times) was released in Japan.
    "

Hang on.... demo at E3 - yeah. PS3 exclusive? I can believe that.

    But....

    Nearly finished?! o_O

If that was a launch title... I would pretty much have to buy a PS3 straight away! :/

Not. very. likely. Unless Squenix has a second huge squad of ace programmers hidden away somewhere, which I doubt.

I'll lay it on the table, now, despite having never seen the game:

I want to have FFXIII's children.

I hope its not another turn-based random fighting RPG. The next-gen can do so much more than turn-based.

Haven't really given FF the time of day since FFVII (although I did consider FFX), but if this is a launch title it may well be a certain purchase.

Come on SquareEnix - work your magic

Playable at E3 - certainly hope so.

I'll let you have that, but you must not disrespect Final Fantasy IX! Apologise immediately!

Interesting. So how long have they had those PS3 devkits if they've managed to produce an almost finished game? Did they just port over the FFXII engine?
Either way if it's true great news.

I'm almost certain Sephiroth was gay too, but I wouldn't pick a fight with him.

Yeah, because that's *exactly* what XII is...

But wasn't the vast bulk of XII basically finished ages ago? And it was other issues and some tweaking that delayed it in the final months. Also, the earlier suggestion of porting over the FFXII engine might not be the silliest idea. All they'd have to do would be up the poly count and it would look convincingly 'first-gen next-gen' in the way that VII did.

What did FFXII's original producer do when after he suddenly left the project half-way through?

Turn based is nothing to do with the power of a system, it's a design choice of the game. There have been action rpgs for years. I still prefer the pace of turn based.

I'm sure the FF games are rather easy to port to a new platform, since most of the development hours go into content creation.

They could just use the FFXII engine and pretend they have 256MB of graphics memory instead of... 4. :)

And anyway, he wasn't miserable, just reserved.

I love FFVIII to death, but, really, trying to discuss the characters from FFVIII has about as much point as discussing the characters from The O.C/Hollyoaks/(insert angst-ridden T4 show here) ;)

it must have gone over your heads respectively......the story and the characters are deeper than you give it credit for
I loved the story, but refuse to believe that so much meaning was put into it intentionally. It's the players who insert their own interpretations as they play.

Square: The main character shall be a cookie-cutter reserved guy.
Fans: *debate about Squall for years to come*

Example: anybody who played FFVII and had Vincent pegged as a deep character with many intricacies should now watch Advent Children and see what Square's idea of him was all along. He's a prettyboy vampire. That's all. :)

Be'd really ill, I thought. Or was that just one of the many rumors?
