This reboot was one of the few films in recent years where I came out of the cinema on a high. As a Star Trek fan I could nitpick but it was too much fun.

    I don't give a shit about Khan.

    Khan is not about Khan.

It's about growing old and loss.

This is pretty much how I feel. As a Trek nerd I can pick holes in it and compare it to classic Trek, but as a great fun film that kicked Trek in the arse and back into the mainstream, fuckin' A.

Didn't someone call that? One of the people I play STO with. I think I want to say Petrarch.

Good news anyway, and should make for a good story if true. Even if it's not him, all the evidence suggests the story will be in the same area. A cadet that has learned things from Kirk but surpasses him later on - sometimes having an enemy that's a mirror to the hero can be a bit boring, but it should be okay here.

However, it really wouldn't surprise me if it was a ruse, given the nature of the thing and it covering ground that has already been covered in some form.

    Title confirmed?

    Star Trek Into Darkness

Note the lack of colon. Not sure how I feel, I like the idea of working Star Trek into a sentence, but hope this doesn't mean it's too dark and gritty. The humour was one of the best things about the reboot.

Read an interview with Chris Pine a few days back, though I can't remember where. He was basically saying that the sequel would be nowhere near the tone of something like The Dark Knight films and would still be pretty funny.

I assume Cumberbatch will be a better and deeper villain than Eric Bana, which would explain the darker tone.

I wonder if it's a riff on Heart of Darkness, with the Enterprise being sent to get Gary Mitchell back, who's went rogue in deep space somewhere. Probably not. Although that was basically the original pitch for Insurrection.

    And Deckard :D

Interesting. Looks as though the first 9 mins are going to shown before The Hobbit in IMAX.

Honestly don't get this whole "show the beginning of a film" thing. I'd rather see a trailer. It's not enjoyable to see the beginning of a film and not the rest, and then when I do finally see the film, I've already seen the beginning and it's lost its impact.

Actually, if I'd seen the first nine minutes of Star Trek as a long trailer, I would have been pretty psyched up to watch the rest whenever it came out. It also resonates with me a little more every time I see it. It set the tone excellently for the first film and could have been s great IMAX trailer for those lucky enough to see it. If the nine minutes for ...Into Darkness are half as good, we're in for a bit of a treat.

It probably would be better than modern trailers where they try and show you as much of the film as they possibly can, they drive me batshit.

I remember them doing this for Serenity. Hopefully this one will 'leak' onto the Internet too.

Knowing my luck the local cineworld Imax won't be the right size and they won't show it. Just like with batman and mission impossible 3.

    Well sir, you are mistaken!

UK cinemas currently confirmed for the footage include Cineworld sites in Dublin, Nottingham, Enfield, Crawley, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Ipswich and Birmingham, with more to be announced.

Paramount has issued the first official plot synopsis for Star Trek Into Darkness.

"In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew."
