Er, I found it on the Eurogamer release dates list...

    Bertie! Look what you've done!

Edit: Apparently it's the US release date

Europe is predictably depressing looking release wise as usual I see. Ah well :(

Absolutely not!!! I had that pre-ordered on Tronix from the day it was first listed. Originally it was February, then May, then July (I think) and now bloody October.

By far the RPG I've been looking forward to most this year. But there's no guarantee it won't be cancelled in the States - why the dely if not localisation issues?

By the way tengu, just saw on the DaisyD dating thread that you're Irish. Whereabouts? (I'm Cork myself).

    Oh sugar!

There I am thinking I can steal some of these release dates for those ambiguous titles that don't seem to announce that they're being released (gasp), and you go and say you saw my Makai Kingdoms release date change! arrgh!

Well, I speant lots of yesterday trying to find a release date for this. I can't remember where I found it in the end, so it's erm, sort of pencilled in :D

Ed: ah, oh, I see. Games Press - the only place I can find a date for it - has it listed for 27/7/05. 'Course that's a Wednesday so I took a bit of dramatic license and shifted it to a Friday.

I thought: oo, I'll take a chance with this one - it had to go and be pointed out!1

What you've actually got there is the US release date plus two days - it's out in the US on the 27/7, which is next Wednesday.

As far as I'm aware it's not even been half talked about for a European release. Which sucks, frankly.

Yeah, really looking forward to this now. (Whenever it gets a US release). Although I'll wait to see how they handled DQVIII before getting too worked up.

I wonder is Mitsuda doing the music for this? He still hasn't announced the three games he was working on this year - to my knowledge.

The random dungeons comment suggests Rogue Galaxy is action - agree?

So far it looks and sounds like Dark Chronicle in space. So... yes, I agree :-)

By the way, here's the official homepage; not much to see yet, but the music sounds nice enough.

Would've thought so. Much like Dark Cloud/Chronicle, I'd imagine - they had random dungeons too, remember.

I presume they are FMV shots no?

I didn't see Dragon's Quest VIII on there. When's it released in the states.

    Random dungeons

    /shudder

Well what a load of crud on that list (with a few exceptions). On the bright side there's less to waste my money on \o/

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 (Atlus) - November 14

I thought this was out in Aug-Sep... good news though, I won't really have time until this winter to deal with any more RPGs! :)

Yeah, that's why I assumed action. Playing through Chronicle again at the mo - instead of Lucifer's Call, for some reason, not in the mood for that right now - great stuff. Never really appreciated the music first time through either.

    @silentbob

I don't think the first one looks like FMV, but the second one is, unless they've gone for a mix of pre-rendered and cel-shaded, which seems unlikely.

There are some excellent pieces - iirc, the Moon Palace theme was my favourite. Sat around there for far longer than I needed to just listening to the music.

I'd agree with that. Level 5 are phenomenal at cel-shading.

A SMT: DDS review elsewhere said:
As fun and clever as the battle system may be, however, it gets too repetitive for its own good. Almost every dungeon in the Junkyard is epic in size, and it can take hours to go through just one of them in order to move the story along. Toss in a couple of door and switch puzzles, the previously mentioned high encounter rate, and boss battles that can end up heavy in "trial and error" town, and Digital Devil Saga eventually begins to feel like its dragging along -- especially when you consider how little story you get in exchange for your combat.

The voice acting is awful too. I'm playing through SMT: Nocturne now but the amount of encounters has just spoiled it for me, it stopped being fun about a thousand battles ago.
