Doom looks stunning, I appreciate it is a down grade on other versions, but seriously on a handheld....

Doom is brilliant. Played a couple of hours playing it in handheld and just spent most of the time going "hahahahahahahahahahaha look it's Doom 2016 on a handheld hahahahahahahahahahaha it actually works this is ridiculous"

Rocket league and pinball next week?!!! This console is well exceeding my expectations. When it was first announced I completely wrote it off as another Nintendo gimmick. Now imo it's the best thing they've done since the Snes

Yeah, not counting handhelds, this is probably the best home console they've had in a while. (though I did love the Gamecube)

I'm more or less indifferent to every other gaming platform now. I though the Wii Us off tv play was fantastic but this is something else. It's hybrid or gtfo for me now.

This, Switch has been a game changer for me. It's just so convenient and is everything it needs to be at all times. As long as the games keep flowing like they have so far, my PS4 isn't getting a look-in for some time.

If I were interested in Skyrim (which I'm currently not), then it would be for the novelty of handheld mode. But I'd imagine the most "proper" experience for it would be in VR, assuming it controls ok. There are some games that I just don't see as suited to being portable.

Interesting perspective. I see it the other way around - seems unlikely I'd spend tens of hours in a VR game, while having it handheld would give me the best chance of actually finishing it due to all the extra opportunities for play.

I'd never, ever find the time to play a massive game like Skyrim in VR. But if that's not a problem for you, I'd go for the VR version.

I don't know, the longer a game, the more suited it is for the Switch, imo. I don't need a game like Rime on the Switch, I'll find time to finish it on the PC/console. But something like Skyrim? Not a chance unless it is on the Switch.

I guess I just think that some games are naturally "big", ie. best played on a big screen, with the best graphics possible. And yeah, you can play Switch games while docked, but it will never look as good as it does on other consoles / the PC.

I am also iffy about VR, mind. For the reasons already described.

@Mola_Ram Don't want to sound like Mr. Opposite, but funnily enough, I tend to play the more graphically impressive games in handheld mode. There's something fascinating for me about holding a game like BotW or even Mario Rabbids in my hands.

On the other hand, I played a lot of Binding of Isaac and Steamworld Dig 2 on the big screen.

I’m giving up on the concept of wanting to play games at their best graphical fidelity. I didn’t know it 12 months ago but the convenience of the hybrid console is much more important to me.

Fair enough. I also think that some games are better for quick bursts (handheld), and others for longer play seasons (mostly sitting on couch). It's probably more immersive that way.

Though you could hook Skyrim video implants into my eyeballs and it wouldn't make the characters and dialogue any less awful and immersion-breaking. So there's only so much that technology can do, I suppose! :)

I think its more "what it means" than the app itself. This is the first real non-game app, the floodgates are about to open.
