    @Inertia

    thank you.

i was muddying the waters when i wrote that and the point i was trying to make was confused. i was likening religion as a source of constant turmoil and therefore behaving like partials do in a quantum state rather then in the more rigid physical state that we are familiar with. my tagline that at the quantum level anything that can possibly happen does happen i thought was apt at the time.

like i said, i was confusing myself. i know what i meant but obviously i've poorly communicated the point.

mathematics. that's the real face of God.

If gays can do it, we should be able to do it too!

That's really weird...he normally offends 80% of the population everytime he opens his mouth. Compared gay sex to bestiality recently. Maybe someone's spiked the holy water with LSD?

"For example the celibacy of the clergy, whether priests should marry - Jesus didn't say that." - don't think Jesus said much on homosexuality, abortion or euthanasia either!

I think he's just saying this to rule him out of the big job - his Celtic season ticket would go to waste.

Final popey speech this morning. All the majesty and splendour. I can't wait to find out who fucked up, the omniscient god or infallible pope. I think they'll scapegoat god, he can't answer back.

I expect he will point out that quite a few of the bishops selecting his successor have virtually no kiddy fiddling allegations against them atall, so no problems for the future, the church can stride confidently on supporting the spread of AIDS right across Africa, whilst the world waits 300 years for them to get around to deciding condoms are ok after all. They even admitted Galileo had a point in the end. Praise the Lord.

One thing I was wondering is if The Pope is chosen by God, then why do the cardinals have to vote on it? And why does it take several attempts to reach concensus?

I'm guessing that God is speaking through the cardinals, or something. As for needing several votes, He moves in mysterious ways.

That's the beauty of religion. You don't have to worry about glaring plot holes. They're just there to test your faith (which is the opposite of proof).

Yeah, it's a major difference between Catholicism and Protestantism. In the former God speaks solely to the clergy, in the latter to everyone.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Well there's a few inches of snow on the ground here in Belgium and most of the higher ranking church officials are locked away in a room over in Rome.

At least it should be safe for the kids to play outside.

I've never really understood why the pope has to shit in the woods. Tradition is a weird thing.

Genesis 1:29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.

Hey, who said religion was supposed to make sense? Its purpose is keeping people in line using language and images said people are able to understand.

I'm not saying it's bad or good or anything, just that it's a means to an end.

Oh hooray. The start of another non-specific religion is for idiots discussion.

For future reference: We are aware that religion is opiate for the masses and that practioners are sheeple and so on and so forth

A two-thirds majority is the obvious way to choose whos going to be infallible from here on out, or until he retires anyway. I hope the pro-kiddy-fiddlers Mahony gets it, then the Catholic Church can put touching up children on an official footing, maybe make it part of Mass or something.

If only he wasn't dead and fictional, he'd have been perfect to sort out kiddy fiddlers.

If they're guided by God then how come there needs to be a bunch of them? Doesn't God know what he wants?

Oh yeah, that's right. All made up.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

Front page of the Guardian, it would appear they are debating to choose a 'live' pope. Their story graphic reads "Papal Conclave - live\n Pope yet to be chosen".

The line break makes it read like 'live Pope'.
