It's a win for money and common-sense, apparently.

It will be interesting to see what elements of the deal emerge later, I was reading elsewhere that Sony retain creative approval or something, but frankly what they did with the Amazing SpiderMans was pretty terrible. I would hope Disney/Marvel can ground the character better and, like Hulk, not feel like they have to do an origin story again. It could essentially pick up from Amazing 2, with the blond woman dead and Mary Jane appearing. Or it could just ignore all that baggage and go with a Raami-like version where deadblond never happened.

I've never been a fan of the Spiderman comics but felt the first two movies were great movies. The last three have been awful though. They threw enough money at them to get me into the cinemas, but the movies have no heart or quality to translate into a later disc sale or re-viewing. I probably saw Spiderman 1 & 2 multiple times at the cinemas.

Yup, fantastic news. Glad Sony finally realised they don't know what they're doing. Marvel have pushed back a bunch of their Phase 3 films by 6 months too.

Don't know what film Spidey will appear in before his next solo outing, but my money's on Civil War (although they've not pushed the release back for that one, so maybe not).

To save rebooting (again) I would also advise sticking with Andrew Garfield - he really is excellent as Spidey.

They should recast, imo. Separate from what's gone before.

As long as they don't do the origin AGAIN.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm FULLY expecting Spider-Man to be rebooted for the 2nd time in 3 years - I just feel that Garfield is an excellent actor who absolutely nailed playing Spidey, so why recast?

We all know they will though.

They can introduce him in another film as Spider-man, and then handle his origin as his story told to another character, and just get on with it. Similar to Incredible Hulk, as mentioned.

I don't think he is the PP that Marvel would want. There's a lot of crap with the Webb films, with his parents, etc. the best things of those films are the costume from 2 and the death of Gwen. Nothing else is relevant...

Unless, of course (and I think we'll all agree on this) they just ignore the last two films - lets says there's a big action scene in Civil War - literally just have Spidey swing into it and start fighting. No origin, no recap, no awful villains, no parents who are super spies, etc, etc.

Just Garfield, as Spidey, trading blows with Cap or Iron Man.

I think I would make an excellent Spider-Man, fyi Marvel. Spidey: Mid-Life Crisis. Or Spider-Man: The Baldening.

It's also worth pointing out that Garfield is still Sonys choice and they're still running the movie - plus he's already contracted for more films. Do they cancel his contract and pay him off, then go through another big casting call?

I hope they do another origins story, because we definitely need one of those to refresh our memories...

Is there such a thing as too much Marvel?

They've already said 'all new Spider-man' or something, which I'm pretty sure means new PP.

Garfield was great, and was far too good in the films he was in, but in this instance they need to recast.

    @Ultrasoundwave
They can ignore Amazing 1&2 but the public won't.

They need a clean break from the previous films as they pretty such much suck ass. All talk has been on been on a recast which is what should happen.

We are seeing far too much Marvel stuff at the minute and the market is slowly being saturated.

Balls. It's like saying there are too many Paramount films.
We get a couple per year of different characters. You don't have to watch the ones you're not interested in, and if you feel you do need to then it's not difficult to catch up over the course of a movie marathon week or two.

Not really. Marvel films all follow the same template and kind of merger into one.
  • Deleted user 10 February 2015 08:28:08
A re-reboot!? That really isn't necessary is it?

I'd disagree with this. They're all superhero films, sure, but they can be quite varied within the template. Cap 2 and Guardians for instance aren't really that similar.

I also don't think the market is saturated with Marvel films. If it was, they wouldn't make so much money.

I'm guessing an Incredible Hulk style into, 'here's what happened to him in 30 seconds, on with the adventure'.

Yeah, I'm not sure you can watch Thor 2 and Winter Soldier and say they are at all similar...well, aside from the obligatory large object falling out of the sky (Also see Guardians, Avengers, Captain America etc.)

Personally I think they are a quite varied and most of the similar bits are simply because they are superhero movies.
