I Saw That Years Ago is the film podcast where we watch old movies to see if they're as good as we remember.

This week we turned our attention to the 'professional' Lewis Collins in Who Dares Wins. Was it as good as we remembered? Is it as good as you remember? Listen to ISTYA to find out.

Out of interest, when's the last time either of you watched it? Because I sense some rose-tinted specs here, folks.

    Amazing theme though.

Wild Geese is actually on the ISTYA list as a show we want to do.

    I'm pretty sure he's Sun Ra's cousin.

I watched this the week Lewis Collins died. I still think it's amazing: how many other British 80s action movies are there? With AMAZING synth soundtracks?

The bit when Collins runs down the hall with an Uzi flanked by SAS blokes mades me hard.

A great four seconds in a very long film.

What about the bit when he shmoozes up Judy Davis with his quintessential 80s charm and gains access to her lady parts?

I bet he STUNK of Quorum aftershave in that scene. STUNK of it.

Yep, we talk about that, specifically his claim that he couldn't move in with her because the mice in his flat would miss him.

    Smooth bugger.

We did discuss collins and aftershave, but that bit had wonky sound quality so we had to ditch it.

Lewis Collins was so hard Chuck Norris thought twice about crossing him.

That was actually me who got mentioned at the start, talking about the missing scenes in Firefox, though I think I need to listen to it again as I'm pretty sure he managed to pronounce my name as Durney instead of Gurney...

@1Dgaf I didn't before coming across the ISTYA threads on here, it was the Firefox one that got me looking for somewhere to comment, as I, too, remembered there being a line about Eastwood's character having a Russian mother. It also got me wanting to see the film again, that was when I came across comments that the UK release of the DVD had been cut, so I imported the Firefox/Heartbreak Ridge 2-disc set (came to under 10, even with postage from the US); when I commented about it on the FB page, Martyn sent me a friend request.

@YenRug Ah, that makes more sense now. Thank you for taking the time to look for somewhere to comment and for letting me know I hadn't lost my marbles.

No problem. I know it was complete on the old VHS, which I think I might still have in my boxes in the garage, so I'm glad I found out about it before picking up a UK version; if I'd watched it I'm sure I'd have been questioning what the hell happened to that scene, too!

I still remember going to see Phantasm II at the cinema, when it came out, there was only one other person in the screening and it turned out I was the only paying customer, the other person was using a free pass they'd been given. This was before the internet, obviously, so I was wondering why I'd not heard of this Phantasm that this was a sequel to, it wasn't until magazines like SFX covered it that I discovered it literally was 10 years later, not just a scene setting piece of text on the screen at the start of the film!

I remember seeing it on dodgy VHS in the early '80s. Thought it was very scary then.
