So, I am thinking about getting a new car soon... but what to get :|

I don't want to get too restrictive, but front wheel drive and diesel are non starters.

My current car is an import Impreza running @ 370bhp.

Budget would be 20k - tops... a big consideration is the B7 platform Audi RS4 - admired this car for ages, and I am curious to try a powerful NA engine (4.2 ltr V8) a little extreme perhaps, or I could go more conservative and save some cash - as well as have lower running costs - tax, insurance, servicing etc. Although this would be plan B

Any one here own a performance car, or have any thoughts?

What and get him to steal you a car? Seems easier to just buy one.

Make sure it's got realistic handling, it might ruin the whole thing for you if it doesn't.

4 doors would be nice, but still a luxury.

Best thing about the RS4 is the V8 engine, but in a chassis that can actually handle. Sorry, America ;)

Kind of depends what you want to do with it.. Will it be an every day car, or just a fun weekend car?
Does it need boot space etc?

Not as nice as I used to be

Late model, sorted big single Supra. Should be able to get one with 800ish bhp with change to spare. If its externally standard it shouldn't lose too much value, you can always get another 4 door car when you have kids.

Depending on how new it needs to be, a BMW M5 would fit in your budget...

Not as nice as I used to be

As a rule, you can throw out any kind of sensible or practical functionality, in favour of some raw power

My Impreza didn't have air conditioning put in at a factory level in favour of a better power to weight ratio... if that gives you a better understanding. So stuff like boot space and parking sensors...

Also, I am of the position that your everyday car should be able to rip shit up - as and when needed.

    Get an M3 or a 335i.

RS4 B7 is a cracking car but good luck getting one that wasn't arsefucked for under 20k.

M3 would be perfect tbh. Although I would kill puppies for an unmodified Skyline GTR 34

Not easy to find one that hasn't been tuned to churn out 750hp, but there are some about. Like this one.

How much do used M135i's go for now, that's a monster. Surprisingly cheap to insure too. My 125i packs a punch but the MLite is in a different league.

Considering the amount of time you spend in traffic in this country I think I'd rather have the air-con.

The M3 (E46) was my other consideration when I was buying my current car. Awesome car, but the brakes are supposedly shit.

I don't really want to go backwards in the power department, that would be underwhelming.

Thought about Porsche, and my future car is still going to be a GT3 RS, but I don't think i'd like any other model. They scream douchebag more than BMW's.

Get a TVR Tuscan and save 15k for hospital bills.

EDIT: Oh, they seem to be around 20k. Oh well, problem solved.

    E46 M3 - Rear subframe tearing issues.
R34 - Wont get one without terminal rust for 20k.
    911 - Need 25k for a clean 996 turbo, don't bother with other varieties.
M135i - Will be a downgrade from current car.
Exige - Not really a daily driver, would always be worried about people cracking the clams while parked.

    Supra . . perfect ;)
