Sir Mervyn King: "Perhaps the note itself will become known as a Winston"
Yes... because we all go around calling a 10 note a Darwin don't we?

    5: Godiva.

    10: Aryton.

Gonna take more than a dead boozehound to shift that.

I've never heard a tenner being called an "Ayrton" before, thats just not proper Cockney. It makes perfect sense though, but I dont think you'd get away with that in an East End boozer.

    Its a Cockle.

    Cockle and Hen - Ten.

It's a living language, as Alan Partridge so ably showed us.

/meh - My grandad would turn in his grave. And probably bury Alan Partridge up the allotment.

Don't doubt it. I've got a lot of problems with 'Listerine' and the like as well.

    Ayrton is too perfect though.

    I call 5 a "fiver", and 10 a "tenner". I call 20 "twenty pound".

Why is a twenty a "pony"? I've never heard a good explanation for that one.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

Not something I've heard. Pony is 'crap' as in 'pony and trap'.

Others I've heard - Deep sea diver (although I prefer Godiva). A pony is 25. 20 is a score. 500 is a monkey, obviously.

    1 is a "bar"

The only time I've ever heard "bob note" is my dad describing homosexuals as "bent as a 9 bob note"

Pretty sure the lyrics from the Only Fools & Horses opening theme aren't saying "Stick a crap in my pocket".

And yeah I got it wrong it's 25, not 20.

turns out it's a remnant of the pre-decimalisation days and isn't worth 10 at all. Still heard it said mind...

Regarding parental homophobia, this may shed a little light on the phrasology.

The coprophilia aspects of the show were dropped before it aired but it was too late to rerecord the theme tune.

25 was the princely sum of the price paid for a horse that won one of the early Grand Nationals. Weird thing; I just tried to google it to back up my little story with some evidence, but it looks like it's been lost to time.

Dunno if it was stud money or for the whole thing though.
