From the E3 video it seems like that course I hate from MK7 is back for MK8. That underwater one with the Piranhas.

Fuck it, just make all the Retro tracks the MK64 levels!

Strike me down as someone that doesn't like Blue Shells. I think every offense should have a defense.

Although in Mario Karts case that would be still down to a random element.

There's no real way of winning this argument in that case unless they go down the 'loadout' route which wouldn't be very popular. And probably equally as flawed.

I haven't thought about it too much.

And in regards to the best Mario Kart. I think the DS one was the best so far. I do like Mario Kart 7s flying shenanigans though. The handling feels spot on.

I think the N64 has the worst line up of tracks. I remember playing the 4 they had in Mario Kart DS and thinking, these were great, but they've not picked the best ones. And then I had another go at Mario Kart 64 and realised that they had. Although saying that, the 3DS includes the track with the train, which is at least very memorable.

A few little tidbits from an developer interview at E3.

    - MK8 development began just more than a year ago.
    - No others studio involved, 100% EAD Kyoto.
    - About the Gamepad use: "Our priority is to provide the remote display on the GamePad only. We have other ideas, but that's all we can tell you for now."
    - Why no F-Zero instead?: "H. Konno: It has always been a Mario Kart per console, so we wanted to get a new one to have more people interested by our new system. But I also hope that there will be an F-Zero."
    - About tracks size: "In Mario Kart 8 tracks have also been narrowed compared to Mario Kart Wii and reflects more the size of the road. "
    - About customization: " Like Mario Kart 7 (but) with a little more choice"
    - No editor even if they talk about it.
    - About a Double Dash mode using the Gamepad: "H. Konno: For Mario Kart Wii, 7 and 8, we decided not to use it. But this is a request that is often heard, so maybe we can meet this desire.

I agree with this. That train one although memorable is still dull as dish water. No interesting corners or gimmicks and the track doesn't undulate enough. The only other course I remember is Wario stadium and that's only for the wall jump cheat.

Actually, the Kalamari Desert one (with the train) is the only one where I approve of the extra routes they've added.

For me the best tracks in MK64 are Banshee Boardwalk (which we last saw in MKDS), Bowser's Castle (also in MK:Wii) and perhaps Wario Stadium (mainly for multplayer lightning shenanigans). And Yoshi Valley was an interesting experiment. Granted, a lot of the other tracks are a bit too vanilla, but as the first full-3D title in the series, they weren't too bad a stab at it.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

That's fair enough. At the time I quite enjoyed what was on offer. I remember Yoshi's Valley too, which was quite interesting. Banshee's Boardwalk was great. I'd happily see that in every Mario Kart game.

I liked the insane, broken shortcuts you could do in MK64. Like finishing a lap of Wario Stadium in 20 seconds or something like that. Or the across-course leap you could do on Rainbow Road.

thanks for the video raiko, havn't seen this one. Just looks so bloody good. Easily as impressive as some next gen stuff imo.

Also give me hope for the proper 3d mario game (Which im sure they are developing, using some of these models, that should great)

The visuals do look great. I think it has a lot to do with the lighting and use of softer textures on a lot of the scenery. Not to say that's a bad thing. I kinda wish more games did this. I'm hoping this game has off-screen support for 2 or more players. It's always nice having your own screen on Sonic Racing.

Looks nice but I'm yet to be convinced as to what the anti grav actually adds to the gameplay other than the tracks looking more surreal.

Probably not alot, but i guess it gives jumps and routes multiple, routes/exits. There one bit on ghost mansion where he comes out at an angle. i guess for big jumps and that it be just kind of cool. It be great if they had one track where you could race along the bottom, or up on a ceiling and have people doing loop de loops or whatever. I guess they can bring in elements of F-Zero, rollcage, wipeout or XG3.

XG3, man totally forgot about that game!

The gamepad control looks like it may add a significant level of challenge for more experienced. Or it may just be a gimmick like the Wii wheel which didn't work too well in practice.

The anti grab controls look more floaty, possibly easier to drift with but harder to control in general. I noticed some jump ramps placed on walls and various alternate routes so its possible that all that twisting and turning will shake up gameplay.

Graphics look lovely. Genuinely looking forward to it now.

Going by the gameplay video posted a little ways above me, clearly not one individual at Nintendo has ever seen a real road!

... the tracks still look ridiculously wide to me, especially the first tram-rail track in the video. We shall never get to play any tightly designed tracks (anymore).

It does look good though, that has to be said.

There is something about the soft colourful visuals that makes them look a little bit better than the norm.

I think the Anti-Grav looks cool and the multiple routes should help the alleviate the fuster cluck that was Mario Kart Wii.

I believe this and Titanfall had the longest queues, so where are the impressions of those of you who played it? :)

The gameplay and track design looks brilliant as expected but I'm not liking the more muted colour palette at all, I like the classic, bold, Nintendo palette.

Not sure why they felt the need to make the roads more "the size of a road". Seems almost they are trying to inject a bit of realism into Mario Kart.
