    Yeah, I saw it after the football.
    Is that the earliest game advert on tv ever?
    I think it is, game is due in November. Previous record holder (I think) is Capcom who did a TV ad simply to promote the launch trailer for RE6 that was playing on Youtube, that was some 6 months before the game came out.

    Saw this story today:

    http://www.game-debate.com/news/?news=4083&game=Assassins%20Creed%204%20Black%20Flag&title=Ubisoft%20Responds%20To%20PETAs%20Anti-Whaling%20Accusations

    PETA have got small animal up their butt again as there is historically accurate whaling in this historically accurate setting. The Ubi reply made me giggle :)

    "History is our playground in Assassinís Creed. Assassinís Creed 4: Black Flag is a work of fiction that depicts the real events during the golden era of pirates. We do not condone illegal whaling, just as we donít condone a pirate lifestyle of poor hygiene, plundering, hijacking ships, and over-the legal-limit drunken debauchery."

    Who doesn't condone over-the legal-limit drunken debauchery? Are they mad!

    Really impressive - there's a lot more game in this than AC3 by the looks of it and I love the emphasis they are putting on your ship and the open-world environment which is seemingly closed off by tougher enemies/forts....dare I say a bit like Dark Souls?

    Also that's the best ocean I've ever seen.

    Looks a bit too 'press x to win' and he's more out of place than ever in that outfit. Still seems like fun, though.

    @ronuds I was just sweating watching him in that outfit in that weather. Surely real pirates wore shorts?

    So, the Canadian wing of Best Buy clearly don't know;

    1. Hardcore 101 (or, who the band Black Flag were).
    2. What Henry Rollins looks like.
    3. Anything about the product they're selling. :rolleyes:

    Since Black Flag takes place before III I can't imagine it would be necessary.

    I think the only stuff that could potentially get spoiled is the modern day stuff, but that's pretty boring anyway. AC3 does pick up a bit soon though so it's worth sticking with it.

    It does look good, but the size and scope may be too big. It feels like they've just been adding more and more layers since the first game and I might be done with it now. I've barely played 3.

    I am interested though, pending reviews.

    Pretty visuals hiding a dull game.

    IIt must be warm wearing that much clothing in so much heat, that was my only thought watching the video:-)

    My fear is that the 13 minutes shown is what you'll be doing the entire game.

    Nobody else looking forward to this? Quite shocked its only a few days away now.

    It's a little concerning that they haven't released any current gen footage though.

    @elvenscroll

    I am :) I have the Black Skull edition on 360 ordered. Having just played Risen 2 to death I'm ready for a proper Pirates* game.

    I'm 25% in on Revs at the mo, really enjoying although I still have trouble with the jump/climb sometimes, as stupid as that sounds, I just don't like sticking to nearly everthing!

    I have seen 1 review online, very positive, the best AC yet, (the wiiU version I think) or so it said.

    Love just exploring in AC games, ACIII excepted of course ;)

    *Two worlds II had a brilliant full Pirates dlc, you can buy the Velvet goty version on Amazon for around £20 odd I think, for action RPG fans well worth it loads of content including co-op mp campaigns.

    Edit: Re 360/ps3 graphics if it looks the same as Bro and Revs I will be happy

    Yeah, the skull edition is the one I went for. Can't grumble at £49 on Amazon.

    I take it you don't enjoy AC3? Is it down to the characters or the setting? If the former, I was the same until I read the book. It's told through the eyes of Haytham and adds new perspective. Plus Edward is in the prologue. Worth checking out if you get the chance.

    I may get this, stupid me. Ass 3 was rubbish but I wouldn't mind a pirate epic to tie me over for the winter. Is it out on Monday or something?

    I only actually registered that the sub-title for this is Black Flag today when I saw an advert on the tube. I assume I'm too late to make "Do you play as Henry Rollins?" jokes?

    All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

    PSA: It's really good, I'm a few hours in and I've got the same excited feeling I got when I first played AC2. Feels loads fresher than the last couple of titles.

    Assaulting and boarding ships is really really nice - shades of Shadows of the Colossus in jumping between swaying masts and swinging across gaps. Ripping through an enemy crew with your pirate buddies feels fantastic.

    Sailing around is very Wind Wakerish. Haven't done a lot of freeform exploration but I'm really looking forward to it. Only complaint is that the ocean feels too crowded, like you're sailing around on a 10th-scale map.

    Stealth is (a) actually possible, for a change, and (b) quite fun.

    The framing story is a whole new kind of bonkers, in a good way.

    Great stuff
    Looking forward to my 360 version next week.Everything I have seen and read seems very positive. Going to try and get on MP early this time,I didn't with the last few and so when I do play Im miles behind everyone else so just get killed all the time. Case in point, playing single player ACR at the moment,played 2 games online last night...that was enough.

    Can i play this with zero understanding of the other games? i want to have a high seas pirate adventure but have little tollerance for all the meta future stuff. pretty sure i can look past it if it doesnt rely on 6 games worth of backstory.

    @ZuluHero So far the meta stuff is pretty light and easy to just ignore or motor through. But I've actually been engaged by it for the first time in yonks, doing the optional stuff too.

    I would think so. There may be some mumbo jumbo in there but anything to do with the previous games will probably be done in a recap.

    The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

    @Zulu

    Just watch someyoutube stuff
    I have heard you can spend as little as 20 mins on the "shite present day" part of the game.

    I have done 2 sequences in ACR so far,as far as I'm aware there are also optional,the way it should be.

    If you ever fancy one of the older games go forAC Bro-in-hood,excellent game.

    Out Wednesday? So excited. Well, I'm not at all actually but who knows, this may turn out to not be a borefest, stranger things have happened.

    I love the idea of it, it's just the execution (pun!) that sucks.
