Have made the Chicken, Bacon & Apricot pie that was on the last series of Great British Bake-off.

Hot water pastry is an odd experience and just feels wrong. I now understand why it was a technical challenge.

They've come out OK though. Can't try them until tomorrow though :-( they need time to set.

That would overpower the taste of the squab.

Keep meaning to get the cookbook, it's an area of cookery that isn't well served in my existing library (in the definition of the word referring to a collection of books, not a bloody massive room or building full of the things - before anyone starts mocking my use of the word).

Sound like an interesting recipe! Is it pretty representative of the sort of diversity in the series as a whole, or is it largely fairly standard and traditional stuff?

The series covers everything baked. Sweet and savoury, bread to cake. Iced buns to French patisery.

Have a look at the website, there are loads of recipes on it.

    @Razz

Bacon, chicken, apricot - in that order, from the bottom up.

Close enough! Sounds disgusting, but I'd be up to try a piece if I see it anywhere

Not homemade (perhaps one day) but the Huntsman is a fave of mine. I'll be getting a big one (f'nar) for Christmas Eve to have with some pickles/stout etc..

From the top: stuffing, turkey and pork pie.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Look at that pie jelly. Pie jelly is the best part of the pie.

I used to make pies all the time at home. It's really easy, just take the lid off the tin and whack in the oven for about 40mins

The trick is trying to turn the tin upside down on your plate so you get the pastry on top

Any chance of getting some over there? Could be my new profile pic if not.

The only problem is the drink in the background. Should be a nice chestnut brown ale, not a coke.
  • Deleted user 30 November 2012 19:01:18
I've changed to the pie. WHY IS THE WORM STILL THERE.
  • Deleted user 30 November 2012 19:03:30
    Oh, there we go.

    Anyway, pies.
