    @Cappy What a pro, he even managed to fit in racial stereotyping into his response as well.

    In all seriousness, I get the impression that EG is attempting to find a unique voice. And failing, in my opinion.

    The funny captions… the silly pictures… then the over serious commentary pieces, sometimes written in quite personal rather than journalistic styles… the either very po-faced reviews or overly jokey reviews…

    It’s like reading a whiney livejournal crossed a pompous Guardian blog and Something Awful.

    I don’t think I mind a comic style of writing – that is why I keep coming back – but it doesn’t mesh with the kind of stories which appear all too frequently. I wanted to drop the booth babe article issue, but I have to mention again; it tries to make a serious point but does so in a stupid voice.

    I think the problem with Eurogamer at the moment is that, in the past, the comments sections were quite fun and informative to read. Now it's full of moralising, po-faced university dropouts who think that they are better than everyone else. The article the other day where people lost their sense of humour and reality over the kittens was like reading the forum pages of PETA and Socialist Worker.

    My main grumble is that there are too many articles (like the awful Lost Humanity ones) where disagreeing with the author's opinion isn't a criticism anymore it's a thought crime that must be punished by the likes of the Florence Fanclub.

    There are so many well known and not so well known games out there, I'd love to read about those - not Florence's midlife crisis. The one about Proteus was like listening to the old drunken guy down the pub mumbling about his lot in life.

    The obvious thing to do would be to make your own site with tits and all that caper and bask in the wealth it would bring you as millions of like minded gamers flock to your site to watch naked playthroughs and topless reviews.

    Why do a large number of gamers have such a warped sense of entitlement?

    EG is a free site, no-one on here is entitled to anything at all, especially editorially. If certain features are coming at the expense of staple articles such as reviews and news then I'd also complain (or at the expense of the general quality of copy), but they're not. They're optional extra articles that you don't have to read or pay attention to. Plenty of people are going to like articles and features that others don't care for.

    Going off at a tangent here, but it's the same with the AC3 Season Pass where so many people are up in arms about something no-one is forcing you to buy. Heard things along the lines of "Ubisoft are robbing us, boycott them to support your fellow gamer", which isn't fair since it's just an option for those who can see themselves getting all of the DLC and want to save a few quid.

    Combine red and yellow.

    Orange would be a good colour scheme for this place.
    How about orange and teal? Untested and experimental but could be a winner.

    I rather like the editorial and in-depth articles, but some more game reviews would be nice.

    @Syrette Web 2.0

    If you have a comment section or forum then you are inviting people to bitch about your hard work and opinions. Welcome to the future, it sucks balls (then complains about it on Facebook).

    I don't think it's a sense of entitlement. I think it's a lack of understanding in respect to the direction that Eurogamer is trying to go. I'm obviously not the only one who is wondering what Eurogamer is trying to be.

    Personally, I'd prefer to see more reviews and less articles. I couldn't care less about articles regarding Booth Babes, Kittens threatened with genocide, Shag a Gamer, etc. I realise some people do find it interesting but the manner in which they are presented are often didactic and intolerant of an alternative view. Nothing in the world is black-and-white and let's not forget that being Lara Croft -Booth Babe- led to decent careers for most of the women involved. Especially Rhona Mitra.

    There's obviously only so much news to report (99% is PR or PM puff) so more reviews would be much more appreciated. At least for me.

    @scarabium Good post.

    More import reviews would be nice at least, if they are really hurting for content.

    I think there should be a counter point article to the one slagging off Booth babes.

    Aside note I thought my use of the word "Liberal" and the use here seem different I'd brand in more of a "Conservative" agenda but aside from the absurd DNF review I haven't seen much of it on here myself but then again I went to the Expo expecting Booth Babes were a given.

    I remember when video games used to be fun.

    These sorts of stories besides being incredibly boring just seem to be a clumsy attempt to challenge the general perception of the video games industry.

    Get over it nerds. This whole "Look how grown up we are!" is instantly invalidated by the core merchandise being peddled.

    @scarabium Totally agree with your post. When I started using EG years ago it was a funny and informative site that got the balance perfect. And while the forums were a scary place for a new person, at least they were amusing and didn't seem to overtly censor anyone for pushing humour that veered into bad taste.

    Now it seems to have bullishly taken on an overt moral-crusader persona, brought to a head over this puritanical approach to mild titillation. Even the forums are now over-moderated to a humourless level, and woe betide anyone who takes a view on a subject that is even slightly right-leaning, you'll be labelled as stone hearted Tory scum by certain forumites.

    All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

    I quite enjoy how games journalism is maturing past the point where we play a game, slap a score on the end, and shout "WOO IMA JURNALIST!"

    Now, we're discussing what makes games work, and how they relate to the world around us. We're not just telling you the release day of the next AAA gun-fest, we're talking about the socio-political ramifications of booth babes. I know which one I'd be more interested in reading, regardless of what I personally think about the question at hand.

    We're not games journalists any more, we're critics, and I fucking love it.

    Thread with good humour potential get locked too quickly, and forumites get GI'ed for stuff that's fairly innocuous compared to a few years ago.

    You can just look at the "post deleted" bar and see for yourselves how well orange works on the site.
    I've taken the liberty of making a small mock-up of how it could be incorporated into a new logo.
