I'm thinking of picking up a Vita in the states in a few weeks. Will I have any problems with it when I get back? I don't plan on downloading PSN games while I'm over there but I'll probably connect to wifi and play online.

Your only issue (afaik) is that US games will only work with US DLC, but I'd that doesn't phase you then you shouldn't have any problems.

It's region free I think so it'll be fine. Pick up a UK charger when your back home and sign in/up with a UK account and it'll be the same as having a UK one.

Cool, can I sign in with my Irish account when I'm over there to play online without any problems?

Yea, there's no hardware region lock. I use my Japanese account on my UK Vita with no problems. The power supply is 100-240V as well, so you won't have any problems with it exploding when you plug it into the wall back home. The only issue I suppose you'll have is likely warranty, and that's only if it breaks.

There are issues if you get the 3g version. If wifi only it will be fine. Make sure you get a 32gb memory card too, although not sure how prices compare anymore.

I plan on getting the wifi version. Should I upgrade to 3G? Are there any major features I'll be missing out on ie Near etc?

I got the 3G one and within a couple of weeks I was taking the sim card out. Depends on how much wifi there is in places you'd normally be taking it to, really. It's even less useful if you have a phone you can use to make a hotspot for it.

As for the 1st question, does the Irish store have a movie section? If so, it may not be available from a foreign IP. Everything else should be fully functional.

Apart from instant web the only other advantage of 3g version is it has gps. So geotagging works - there is meant to be a game called t@g coming out that uses it. Or using the map app.

I bought one simply because i wanted the best version so i wouldnt miss out on any of the future games that use it.

You can use 3G in some games, but if the idea is still US Vita then I'm pretty sure the 3G is still tied over there, making it pretty unappealing.

I'm currently in NZ for the next week (finishing off a working holiday visa) before I head to states so I might pick one up today while I'm still here.

I've been into 3 stores: EB Games, JB HIFI and Bond+Bond. In short, the sales staff were attrocious. JB had the best offer: a wifi Vita with Uncharted and an accessory pack for $449. I told the guy I needed a memory card instead of the accessories and showed him that the 4GB card was the same price as the pack so could he swap in the card. He said no. Gob****e.

I toyed with the idea of buying a used Vita and found a 3G model for a reasonable price but tbh, I think I'd prefer a new one, I've got a smartphone so the wifi version should do the job.

How much space do game saves take up on a memory card? Will 4GB be enough initially for Uncharted and Gravity Daze? I plan on getting a 32GB card when I get back so could I transfer all the data over from the old card without any problems?

Finally, how does wifi tethering from a phone fare and would you recommend I get an accessory pack for the screen protector and case or just do without?

Cheers for all the info so far, it's been a great help.

If you're only getting physical games then I'd imagine you'd be fine with a 4GB. Transfering will be fine as long as you have a computer. :) Personally I don't think you need a screen protector but I would get a decent case for it. I don't have a 3G phone so can't help with that aspect.

I've teathered with my iPhone a few times. Works pretty well, although you've got to make sure you mobile phone provider doesn't stiff you on charges.

Cool, cheers. And finally, is the crystal white version only available in Japan at the moment?

I'm not sure if I would buy a used Vita but what do you think of this:

    https://touch.trademe.co.nz/listing/view/511021303

In the comments section, the seller says they would let it go for $450.

The one I'm looking at in the store is wifi only, one game and a 4GB card for $499

@shuffles To be honest mate if you are getting the wifi version and going to the states soon I would wait till you get there and get it. The price over there is around $250 so would work out around 50-$75 cheaper. Ish. Depends if you could wait.

Yeah fantastic bit of kit. Don't worry too much about the price. I bought on release day. 3g vita uncharted and a 32gb card for 340!!!! That's the most i've paid for any console ever. I had a lot of faith in this console in the beginning. My opinion has not changed! I love it.
