Cnet says the camera is "overhyped"?
If that's the case, then I'll just go for the 8x as the camera was the only thing making me get the 920 (currently own a 900).

Nokia can only blame themselves. Keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Oh yeah, the 9x only has 16Gb, that's a fail on it's part too. :/

Popped into Tesco today and what do I find...?

A fancy little high corner table featuring the Lumia 800, in three different colours, SIM free, for 159!

I know, I know ... it doesn't 'do' the latest version of Windows Phone however, it is a very attractive price nonetheless. That cyan colour is still sssoooooo lovely to look at too.

I'd get it if I were you, wp7.8 will be practically identical anyway, the only thing you'll really be missing is decent skype integration and ie10, but the browser is more than sufficient.

    Erm, not completely true, that.

According to everything I've read and having had a demo on a 920 and comparing it to my 900, I see no other difference at all.

@The-Bodybuilder Nokia is working on a firmware update to fix the camera's performance in daylight.

Gizmodo review of the 920. They find it too heavy to recommend, a common complaint amongst tech bloggers.

I'm not particularly bothered about the 920 since finding out that the lower numbered ones are also first class. Aside from the 600 or whatever it was.

The 8X is now listed on Orange's 'coming soon' page. No sign of the 920 yet.

Well... I was going to buy a 920 but I couldn't drag it back from the store.

I'm going to hit the gym for a couple of months and give it another go in the new year. :(

I have taken the plunge yet again. I am now an owner of a windows phone for the second time this year. I did like my first time, but really missed the apps on my iphone. His time, i shall stay longer. As soon as Barclays brings out a mobile banking app, instagram, flipboard and a few others join the party, I'm happy.

I spoke to a very helpful person in Phones4u today. It turns out I can upgrade through them, get a white Lumia 920, and keep my current 35/18mo contract \o/ I should have it on Friday.

Things I don't like about Windows phone 8.
(I know this is a thread for owners and fans. Maybe if I list them, the hivemind can point out things that I missed)

    Lack of orientation lock
Jesus Christ. After coming from an iPhone, I am prepared to change the way I use my phone. But this is a major annoyance. So much so that if I am surfing in bed, I prefer using my iPhone 4. Which my HTC is supposed to replace.

    Lack of apps
The answer to this is clearly patience. But I miss doing my online banking with my Barclays app, remote recording stuff on Sky with my Sky app, checking all my social media needs with Flipboard, perving on young girls with Instagram, playing word welder. Etc. But I guess, patience is required.

The death of the Zune software
This is really upsetting. When I had the Nokia Lumia in February, the Zune software allowed me to update my phone wirelessly. I could fill up my phone with music, as long as it was on the same network as

    Controlling music player
Again, coming from the iPhone, being able to control the music player from the lock screen is something that I really wish was possible. But I can live without it

I have other issues, but they are really more niggles, rather than actual problems. Anybody got any solutions for my issues?

Wait the music player isn't controllable from lock screen?

It is on WP 7.5, seems like an unlikely omission.

So, the HTC 8x is now available on Three. Do I get one now, or wait until January and hope they pick up the Lumia 920?

Oh shit! First things first, is it unbranded and unlocked? :D

Definitely unbranded. Guy in P4U said it was unlocked and any sim would work. I don't have the means to test that I'm afraid.

Also, I completely forgot about the weight issue until I'd been playing with it for a while - it suddenly occurred to me that it's supposed to be heavy and unwieldy - it most certainly is not. It feels quite light to me, considering the size and features. I wouldn't say the tech media are blowing it out of proportion, so much as making something out of nothing at all.

    Unless...
Are all tech writers on heroin?

@Ror1984 Holy Shit! Cheers for that, I was totally ready to import a German one. Although if the white one is only sold on EE I might still have to do that :(

WP doesn't have really branding beyond very superficial stuff.

That's the more obvious reason. I stand by the heroin theory though, as some are completely mental. Honestly, a five-year-old girl complaining about the weight of this thing would be completely ludicrous.

@Peew971 I'm on Orange. I went into the shop and asked if they'd be able to give me a white model on Orange, as I didn't like the black, and they were a little hesitant as it is supposed to be an EE exclusive.
They ran through a dummy transaction to see if they'd be able to scan in the white phone and it went through, so I went ahead with it. So try your luck, you might be able to get a white model.

I originally wanted to stay on the same contract with Orange (18mo/500min/unlm texts/750MB data - 35/mo), but the phone would've cost me 100. I didn't want to move to a 24-month contract, (which is one of the main reasons I didn't want to move to EE), and they managed to find another 18mo contract (400min/unlm texts/750MB data - 36/mo) on which the phone was free. I hardly use half my minutes, and an extra quid a month for 18 months is a better deal than paying a ton for the handset.

They were really helpful, seems like they went above and beyond to make me happy. It worked.

Thanks I'll see. Not sure they'll go through hoops for me though as I want it sim-free.

    *sulks, sulks, sulks*

I was on the verge of buying a Lumia 820 today as I I have a SLR camera and find no real need to justify paying a lot more for the Lumia 920 ... but anyway, I can only buy it in black!

I don't particularly like the black cover because it looks quite glossy and is a fingerprint magnet; I kindly asked if I could have the red shell because it looks nice and not-so-glossy however, you can only buy the other colours if you start a new contract.

The guy said it was Nokia who forced this (bizarre) policy.

    Just WTF?!

    ... : (
