Registered 8 years agoThat's not necessarily a bad thing if the Ativ S and 8X turn out to be great phones. It means each carrier and manufacturer can push their exclusive device with great marketing and stop relying on Nokia to do all the work.
At least we're lucky that being in the UK we can probably still get them sim-free to work on any network. -

Registered 9 years agoUnfortunately I have to go with Three. So all I can do is sit back and vent my nerd rage by swearing to never buy another Nokia phone ever again. It looks like my new Nokia will be a Samsung. Unless Three screw me over on that one as well. The specs for the HTC 8X look to put it firmly in third place.GT: robthehermit

Registered 11 years agoIf you want it that much, why not buy it unlocked?
You'll be able to drop to a sim only tariff and save a few quid a month as well.

4G will be a complete waste of time. The only uncapped provider doesn't have it, so it'll be a case of basking in the glory of buffer-free HD mobile video, for about 30 seconds at the start of every month until you hit the cap.

Registered 9 years agoI upgrade every 12 months as I've staggered mine and Mrs Hermits contracts. This year it's her turn for a new phone. I don't have the funds for a sim free phone.
And you keep going on about March Mr McMonkey. What is it you know that us lesser mortals don't?GT: robthehermit

Do neither Orange or T-Mobile offer unlimited caps? To be honest I've never hit my cap on 3G so don't see it being a problem with 4G.CosmicFuzz wrote:

Registered 6 years ago@robthehermit March is when his contract is up. He won't buy a windows phone however as they will have announced some other model by then, so he'll lock himself into a 2 year contract with an android and moan about it until it's over, then repeat it all over again...

Registered 9 years agoT-Mob also have an unlimited data plan " The Full Monty" Except it's not. Unlike "The One Plan" from Three it doesn't allow tethering.
4g is only rolling out to 16 cities by the end of the year, covering an estimated 30% of the population. Making the 920 exclusivity seem even more stupid.
I want a WP8 at launch, I want me the new shiny. As a consolation prize we're allowed to have the 820. But next to the 920, its a piece of crap. None of the features that make the 920 special have made it across. Instead we get interchangeable back covers. Fuck Off.GT: robthehermit

Registered 9 years ago@CosmicFuzz Ah, I see. I suppose by March it may be available on other networks. I can't wait that long though, because I'm an impatient sod. If I only had that long to run on my contract I'd switch. Quidco and Mazuma should cover the termination fee between them.GT: robthehermit

Registered 10 years agoThe Lumia 920 really does look pretty good.
The Ativ S is even better due to the SD card slot though and it's not even listed?!Come and get it cumslingers!

Registered 10 years agoTechblogs shouldn't be using the Lumia 920 as the best of Windows 8 then. They should be using the Ativ S.
The nexus phone is the flagship for Android but techblogs are quite happy to use the GS3 as the best example of Android so it shouldn't be different for windows.Come and get it cumslingers!

Registered 10 years agoI dunno, has nice features like the camera, Nokia drive, music, wireless charging which I think make it the better package overall design aside.
Anyone else think the EE exclusive is going be short, like a month or so? Just feel Nokia wouldn't be more crazy than that. They need more carriers. -

Registered 8 years ago@mcmonkeyplc I think it's simply because the Ativ S has never been turned on so we don't know what Samsung brings softwarewise and we don't know what their camera is like (it could be like the Galaxy Nexus one for all we know). Until we know that it makes sense to go with the 920 as the flagship device. -

Registered 9 years agoThen there is the fact that Nokia got deep in bed with MS on this. They should get something for their commitment. Makes sense. If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

@oceanmotion I don't think EE would go for an exclusive that doesn't cover Xmas, I'd say January-February might be the earliest for other networks to get it. That should work in HTC and Samsung's favour if their Windows Phones are on everything else.
