There's some catching up to do for those who haven't been following. I'd recommend our VR blogger's Youtube channel:

    http://www.youtube.com/user/HapPProductions

..he's tried just about everything there is so far and they give you a good feel for the Rift and the current content.

This first article for use is here:

It's strange to replay games and actually stand in spaces you've seen before on a flat screen.

Look to aim is pretty fantastic, I was pulling off headshots within 5 minutes.

Stupid question, but are you sitting down to play? Swivel chair? :)

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Literally don't see the point in these screenshots/photos of the ingame footage. Here's 2 images that are slightly different and convex. Marvel at the technology on your 2D monitor.

Alternatively squint your eyes and it's like a Magic Eye picture!

@Deckard1 The site gets 150k+ pageviews a month and growing fast. So, not yet but perhaps later. It is like having a 2nd job though yes.

Some guy ported his pong/arkanoid clone to the rift.
It's only controlled by where you look.
I know it doesn't look like much but it's actually fun to play.

    That looks great fun.

The rate that Devs are cranking stuff out is staggering. Clearly the Rift is proving to be an amazing Muse for them.

Man this is just great. I really hope the stars align in terms of its quality, its selling price and support from developers.

It's producing two separate images, does this double the work for the PC you're playing on? If so, and they get the commerical models up to 1920x1080, it'll need a fairly beefy machine.

Yup you're going to want all the frames you can get.
Currently I'm having no problems with a 650M at 1280x800.
There's people working on Far Cry 3 support, going to switch to a 670 for that.
If the consumer version has a 1080p screen, you'll need a beefy gpu, this thing needs 60fps.

Actually yes and no. You're rendering two images but you only render one 1080p frame (each eyes see's half of that resolution).

There is only one panel in the Rift and this will remain the case for the higher res consumer versions too.

So, whilst you do need to shoot for high frame rates, if you can already do this at 1080p you're sorted.

Well, the gpu does have to do the geometry math twice I think.
I'm running some demos at 1080p which oddly enough gives me a sharper image, the screen only being 800p.

It doesn't quite work out that way (there are numerous tricks apparently to make the vertex calculation far less intensive), besides shaders and lighting are by far the most expensive and you're still rendering the same number of pixels, things require far less grunt than 120Hz full frame rendering per view.

The reason why your image is sharper is because you're downsampling from a more detailed image, which will usually give you a far more detailed, pleasing image than rendering at the native resolution.

Best guess is Q3 2014 ATM. Before that though we'll have a 2nd version of the developer kit (unknown changes but likely panel upgrade and stereo AR cameras). Quite frankly though, at this stage even Oculus doesn't know.
