    Just thought, Flight sims!

Cockpit view of course, would there be any game type more suited or immersive? Wowza PS4 Ace Combat and VR helmet please.
Flight sims and driving games (or any game where the world moves around you) are ideal. Of course that includes stompy mech games (see earlier Hawken Q&A).

What is the state of the art with haptic gloves these days, bob? Proper VR with haptic feedback would be absolutely amazing.

    And not just for pr0n.

Heh, some controversy caused by Notch (he of Mojang / Minecraft fame) - looks like they're the first developers to receive their Dev Kits and posted a picture wearing them ... before having to remove the image due to embargo. :) Full story here:

Does Glass really belong on a VR site? Guess it will drag in the clicks, but it's a bit of a tangent, surely?

Dude, VR and AR site. Check our post history, Glass coverage is second only to Oculus stuff. To cover VR and not AR is ludicrous.

Besides, 'Road to Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality' is hardly as snappy a title. ;)

Meh, it's not AR. It's an augmented box in the corner of your vision of one eye.

Oh well, never mind. If you're covering it you're covering it.

Oh dear god, of course Google Glass is AR!

It's hardly a piece if fluff journalism and we've dozens of previous articles on Glass (most of which are used as references in the article!). We're covering it, because it's AR and we're excited about it. Stop being grumpy and go and read it!

    Sorry phAge, missed this.

I catually don't know, we know of various haptic / impact devices but I need to do some research on the subject.

In the mean time, if cool input peripherals are of interest:

We're in the process of setting up a dedicated AR / VR Developer forum over at RoadToVR with an aim to chart and support fledgling VR projects from independent developers.

If you're a developer and are interested in taking part, send me a PM and I'll arrange early access for you.

I just realised you must have been stalking Kickstarter to get that low an order ID. I'm 20xx. Still as long as you're below the 5k mark you should be in the first batch of units from the factory.

    So close now .. ;)

I wasn't really stalking kickstarter, I don't know what drew my attention to the kickstarter, but I do remember being sold even before I finished their video. I was like, yes, finally, let's do this thing.
Man, I do hope they ship this week.

Hope none of us were *really* looking forward to playing Doom 3 BFG on our Rifts when they arrive. :-/

'When we launched the Kickstarter campaign, we said we’d bundle a copy of DOOM 3 BFG Edition with each development kit as an extra “Thank you.” Unfortunately, we’ve been informed that DOOM 3 BFG Edition will not support the Rift development kit by the time we begin shipping.'

Offering up Steam credit, Oculus credit or a full refund as an alternative. Which is at least half decent of them.

Pisser though - I'm gonna have to sate myself with pissing around with Unity demos when the thing arrives now. Outside chance that Hawken will have support in time, apparently, which is something at least.

It's certainly a twat and you do wonder what happened at this late stage for this news to suddenly come to pass.

However, if you read the rest of the e-mail, reading between the lines, the Kickstarter will start to ship next week as they'd promised. i.e. "The next 24 hours are your absolute last chance to update your shipping details" - sounds pretty good news to me.

Besides, we have some hints that there are some announcements coming early next week which will certainly help ease the pain. Watch roadtovr.com for more updates Monday. :)

    The doom thing sucks.
I wasn't looking forward to it too much, monster closet isn't the best way to get your first steps in VR, but still, it would have been nice to see a full length game in VR.
Worst of all, for me, it's a sign on the wall that porting a game to the rift isn't that easy.
Also, they're not very clear if this is final or just a delay for doom3.
