Registered 11 years agoWell, the phone actually in the matrix was a specially produced device that never made it to market, but they did produce one based off the principles of that prototype, and I think that was it, and yeah, the little flap of plastic did have a habit of breaking off and the mouthpiece bit just shooting off when you pressed the button.Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Registered 11 years ago8110 wasn't spring loaded, they added that for dramatic effect in the film. Wikipedia told me just now.+1 / Like / Tweet this post

Registered 3 years agoIndeed. The 8800 is "The Matrix phone" - I'm pretty sure it was the first popular spring loaded Nokia.
Even that was about 3 years after the first film was released though. -

Registered 11 years agoOh right. IIRC the matrix phones were more bulbous than the phone in the matrix, but I thoight one was released around the same time. I dare say wikipedia is right that the springloaded one was a later variant.

Can you imagine if The Matrix had been made now and they had a touchscreen phone come out the envelope and ring? It wouldn't be anywhere near as cool when he answers it. Old school FTW.
