Picked one up a few days ago from pc world for 199 (32 gig). Got the blue travel case which looks lovely, but hasn't got the magnets (but was 14 quid with the nexus). They were doing a deal on leather cases too.

Pairing it with a bluetooth keyboard to bash out emails/docs on the go, and downloaded Office Suite 6 HD for a bit of work stuff (annoying to have missed the discount on that..!)

Mainly using it as a diary (gcal syncs with my aging phone 4)/evernote notebook and browsing machine. It feels like an interactive notepad really. About the same size too.

Had a look at the iPad Mini which looks like a great bit of kit but I wanted a bit more flexibiity with the filesystem. I've sideloaded flash for a few websites I need to use for work stuff - just makes it a bit more useful to me although a bit of a niche use and not officially sanctioned. Also just getting a bit bored with ios! Also what with cases etc was going to easily be another 100 with less storage.

    PROS:

I've never really used Android before and have to say I am pleasantly surprised. Widgets etc really useful especially on a bigger screen. Chrome is a great mobile browser. Much easier to multitask and the 'intents' system feels like what services on Mac OS X has always been trying to be. It feels smooth, responsive and flexible.

The apps I need are available in tablet form (office suite, evernote, notes app (i'm using colour notes), mind mapping etc), and the gmail client is superb.

Google now is great - don't have Siri on my phone but after playing with both think they are on a par, and the Nexus can do offline speech recognition. Face unlock is fun if temperamental (and not that secure).

And Gmaps just blows apple maps out of the water. Cannot believe how much better it is. Am getting pretty sick of apple maps anaemic search function! Which reminds me that it has gps and the wifi ipads don't. And can download tiles offline which is handy (have all of greater london downloaded).

Games are great on a bigger screen and you can hook up ps3 pads i understand.

Google play market feels easier to use than the app store which is very slow on my iphone 4.

    CONS:

It would be great to have VGA out so I could use it for presentations but it isn't the end of the world - I'll just upload it to gdrive/email it to myself. Don't miss external storage really, have been installing a few huge games and still have a lot of space left, although need to put some music on it as well.

The power switch is a touch hard to hit through the case but I seem to be adapting.

It doesn't seem to like wifi tethering with my iphone so have to use bluetooth tethering.

The battery life is ok; not great but not terrible either. But I am playing with it a lot!

The screen is ok but a bit lacking in "pop", also it is annoying that the three buttons at he bottom don't autohide in fullscreen apps, especially in landscape they take up a lot of space.

If I could work out a way to sync my iphone notes I would be a very happy camper.

There are less tablet apps in the google play store, so ymmv.

For the price it's an absolute steal - I was thinking of picking up a cheap netbook but instead have something that feels faster and is much more portable, at the expense of screen size. For me its a good trade-off.

Update to Android 4.2 - trying the new gesture keyboard, not bad at all - oddly the access to settings via the pull down menu has gone, or am I missing something?

Edit - to answer my own question, you swipe down on the right hand side of the screen to access settings etc - with the Nexus 4 two fingered swipe anywhere on the screen will access settings.

So has anyone on here taken the plunge and gotten a Nexus 10 yet? I'm debating with myself whether I should get it or just get the 7 with 3G/HSPA or indeed wait for a 10 with mobile data.

Just picked up a 32gb Nexus 7 in Argos and they are giving 10 gift vouchers with purchases over 100. So it's only 189...from a certain point of view

16gb was more expensive than it is online at comet. Even with a tenner discount. No wonder they are in the shit.

16GB is more expensive everywhere on the high street than online, see my earlier moans. I think it's because the cheaper model (was 8GB, now 16GB) isn't readily available on the high street, and the ones you can find are from when 16GB was the 199 model - hence the high price. Eg. Argos sell both models for 199 :)

Anyone who's having issues with their rooted 4.2 Nexus 7 should try this:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990814

Can confirm it works although Stickmount, MX Player and Sixaxis controller all fail to work on 4.2 but updates are apparently being worked on.

Why does my Nexus 7 not sleep. It's set to 1 minute but it stays awake no matter what...

    I totally called it.

So how's everyone getting on with their Nexus 7 ? Had mine 2 weeks now and I'm still lovin it ! Great for films and comics, I never realised how much I'd end up using it when I first got it. Heard some reports about the update causing issues but as far as I know everything seems to be goin ok so far on mine. Really think I made the right choice when I also thought about the Kindle Fire HD and iPad Mini.

Finally picked one up for the wife's Christmas present at lunchtime and it's staring at me, daring me to open it and have a play! The Nexus, that is. Not the wife. :D

Going to go through your lot's case recommendations again now and see what looks best. Exciting gadget time! \o/

Gah - I go to order a 16GB version for 159.99, only to find that everyone has hiked up their prices.

Any deals still around? Direct from Google appears to be the cheapest at the mo - 159.99 with 10 delivery.

Don't think so, I've been looking for the 16GB at a good price too. Currys / PC World have a 10 off thing using the Quidco mobile app at the moment, and have the 16GB and 32GB at 180 and 200 respectively, so 170 and 190 after the discount.

Although I don't think I need 32GB, I know I'd kick myself for not spending 20 more to double the capacity so I'll probably go for that one.

    Cheers. sir.

I was rather tempted by the deals on 8GB Samsung Tab at the mo. You can currently pick it up for about 148 from Carphone Warehouse etc - Samsung will then give you 30 cashback and a free Micro SD card.

'Only' a dual-core, though, so I think that the Nexus is worth the extra pennies.

Yep I agree pretty much with all of this, although I don't think I'm using it half as much as I could be. When I first got it it seemed like so many features required wifi I basically only use it at home but I might look to change that.

Had mine a couple of weeks and was loving it. Then the 4.2 update was released and it KILLED the Stickmount (for using external USB drives) and SixAxis Controller ( for using a er....SixAxis controller) apps. One or two others are a bit flakey now as well :-(

Hopefully updates will fix them soon tho.

My wife bought me the 16GB for my birthday, third day with it now and I love it. Time to browse through this thread for some case recommendations.

Spent a good couple of hours last night trying out various RSS readers to sync with Google Reader and settled on JustReader. I use Reeder on IOS and couldn't find an Android version, but JustReader is excellent. Has a nice widget too.

Hmm, seems that the latest update for Skype fixes the app in landscape mode only! Which isn't good on a 7 inch tablet, well namely the Nexus 7 - either don't update until a fix comes along, or download a screen rotation locker app - Thank you Microsoft!

    Just to let you know.

I ended up ordering this Poetic case this afternoon. The thin profile and the unobtrusive way the device clips in without a surround are what swung me.
