The kindle select is a good idea. I've been reading into it and it sounds good. I'll probably give that some consideration.
Also, your book sounds very interesting. How's it doing for you?

I've read this twice in some early incarnations, it's great!
I'm Commander Shepard and I approve of this book.
Thanks very much.

Congrats on your first novel
Good luck, will give it a whirl when released. Congrats too FT
Congrats, nice to see the hard work pay off. I'm a bit engrossed in this Twilight porn fan fiction that someone here recommended but I'll have a look when I'm done.
Also: Twilight Porn fan fiction? Ummm, that sounds horrific.

meme put us all onto it in the "how do you measure success" thread.
Lol, he'll be delighted with that!
Unless you have a US Social Security # (or are prepared to go to the hastle of getting one) then you basically can't use CreateSpace. (Rumour is that this will change later this year, but for now...)
Excluding Friends/Family I am selling about 1 a week at the moment - all on .com. Need to start experimenting with categories / pricing. Also doing a free day on Kindle this Monday, which will hopefully at least get some people reading it. Very annoying that Amazon give you no real help. Could really do with being able to see how many people d/l the preview etc.
I've heard about the Social Security thing. That's a bit of a pain in the ass. Hopefully it will change soon.
For the moment, I'm going to be leaving it as an e-book and seeing how it goes for a while. If it does well, I'll consider a paperback copy too.

Good luck, I'm hoping to publish my first in a year or so (if I can make it good enough).
Thanks very much, and good luck to you too!
In case anyone is interested, the first chapter of my book is up on my blog.
Fanastic achievement, well done! I'm curious, had you written much stuff previously? Also, are there any particular writers that inspire and/or influence you?
I wrote a book before called For Past Sins. It went to a few agents/publishers, but never got picked up, in hindsight it's because it wasn't good enough. Apart from that, I've always been writing little bits here and there.
Lots of writers inspire me: Terry Pratchett/ Richard Morgan/ Jim Butcher/ Alan Moore/ Warren Ellis and about a dozen more.
I've just read your prologue and chapter 1 and it's surprisingly good. I don't mean to appear patronising but I thought it was of a genre that wouldn't appeal to me yet your writing style is very engaging. It's detailed enough to create personality and the world but light on those details that you don't overdo it (to my mind at any rate) on attempting to paint it yourself.
I won't get your book yet though as I don't have an ereader but I'll certainly keep an eye on it. I hope it sells well.
Have you read any of David Mitchell's stuff or the books by John Twelve Hawks?
Thank you very much. I've had a few people also say it's surprisingly good because they don't expect self-published work to be good. I've never been a big fan of writers who spell out every single detail of the world their story is set in. You need to leave a little to the readers imagination.
That's fair enough. A few friends of mine have downloaded the kindle app onto their PC or phone, but I understand that some will still want a paper copy if they don't own a kindle. Hopefully I can sort that out if the ebook does well enough.
I've heard about John Twelve Hawks, but haven't read them. I think the first one is on my amazon list of things to buy. I haven't read or heard anything by David Mitchell, though.

(To the extent that we don't use 'self-pub' generally - we say 'indie'!)
Don't forget that Big Pub isn't looking for good writing anyway - they are looking for stuff they can sell. Most of the rejection letters I got were 'form' letters, but the couple that weren't both said the same thing - this is a promising piece of art, but it won't sell because the main character is a bit... er... shall we say... challenging!
Anyways... I am in a good mood this morning, 'cos I sold 4 copies yesterday! It doesn't sound like much, I know, but the great thing is that all of these were genuine sales (not to F&F, who all have it already) and this means that 4 people not only downloaded the sample chapter, but liked it enough to pay $3 for it.
/ Opens champagne
/ Realizes that selling 4 copies is all of $4 after tax... which doesn't quite buy a bottle of champagne.
/ Thinks... Well it is open now, so I might as well drink it!

Congrats! That's fantastic news.
I've come across a few of the traditional publishers/agents who hate the term 'indie', I always found it kinda weird that they did to be honest.
Chapter 2 of my book is now up for anyone interested, and I promise that's the last link I'm going to post about it. Until it comes out anyway.

Spam away, I don't think anyone really minds genuine forumites promoting their stuff. It's good so far though (haven't read chapter 2), I'll be buying the book when it appears.
Thanks very much. I kinda figured the book section would have a weekly blog bit to be honest, where everyone on here can post their stuff, but I couldn't find anything.
I only mind shit spam. This is good spam.

Is it going to appear for kindle on the 30th? Best of luck.
Yep, it'll be on kindle for the 30th. Which is actually kinda scary. And thanks, it's been a crazy week arranging interviews and reviews.
Also, glad this is considered good spam.

Sounds like you really worked at it, may you launch like a rocket

Thanks, hopefully the work pays off.
I have, yeah. I did it yesterday. I'm here:
Although there's not much on it about me yet. I need to do that this weekend.
