Vista wouldn't recognise my wireless dongle; no internet for six months on that motherfucker.

It was bad enough for me to buy Windows 7, the first and only OS I've ever bought standalone.

I'll be in the minority here, but I find Vista not too bad.

Admittedly it was a bit dodgy in the early days, indeed I almost went back to XP, but it's fine now after patching/service packs, and has been the most stable OS I've experienced.

Most of the annoying things that remain can also be easily tweaked. UAC can be disabled in the control panel, and then just hide the notification so it never bothers you again.

i went through 3 of the fuckers (2 dongles one card) before finding one that worked, despite all 3 saying "vista compatible" on the box

Still on Vista too for my 2006/7 Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop runs everything fine and UAC was easy to get rid of all the other things have been changed/fixed, all the hardware has worked fine on stock drivers I ignored all the Dell ones - though I did have to use some hacked nV drivers for the gfx but not updated them now in like 2 years. Was gonna upgrade it to W7 even bought it but never could be arsed hoping the the laptop would break first.

The laptop came with XP but had a free upgrade to Vista when it came out, which I installed 6 months alter.

Used W7 and tbh it doesn't get me wet at all, yeah its a bit easier to use but for everyday use I see no difference - might buy a new machine when W8 shows up though.

I used to be a gamer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.

I'm in the same situation here. I bought my Vaio laptop in 2007 when Vista had just come out, and after years of updates it has changed from massive ball-ache to perfectly functional OS. In fact, I've got W7 running on the netbook and work PC and can't really tell the difference - Vista looks and feels pretty much the same.

Vista dropped you on your head?

You should have just switched back to XP like all the real men
