Dont worry about losing a few guys later on the missions can talk alot of time and if you restart every time you lose someone.(if they die they are gone for good) you will be playing for a long old time

Yeah, I played the GBA game originally with save points, which is a massive cheat and speeds up trial and error a lot. Although as you learn the battle engine you realise there's very little luck involved, and you can predict the outcome of any particular move before you make it, or at least the worst case scenario.

Fire Emblem is destined to be winnable in almost any state, so people who worry about losing characters and won't go on are missing out on one of the greatest features of putting the role-playing into the strategy. Usually you have so many characters that you'll not have nearly enough time or inclination to level them all and since you can only bring so many into the final battle its pretty useless to have them all still alive at the end of a Fire Emblem. Let them eat cake! I promise you you'll come to enjoy the game better.

If you absolutely must have them survive, so that you can I don't know, make sure to make a marriage between siblings or something vile like that, it's better to play the game on casual mode so that you can revive characters whenever you like.

@JinTypeNoir The reason I don't like anyone dying isn't because I may need them in the future but because death is final I feel a greater responsibility to keep them alive (a no ones left behind syndrome) and why make siblings get married I don't understand the point?

I assume marriage is at the end of some of the support levels. I've not yet found a gameplay reason for the support levels (in the GBA game), but I assume they affect the ending.

I think this is the best Fire Emblem game to this point, eclipsing my longtime favorite, Genealogy of the Holy War. I also think its the best strategy RPG I've ever played. It has the best of both worlds - a tightly-knit, well-balanced campaign that rewards strategy and smart roleplaying choices with a great sense of satisfaction and following the story of these characters, and a free-for-all, endlessly replayable core design outside of that for those who like to tinker, min-max, iron man mode, create the ultimate team, and so on.

The only downside is you have to decide which Fire Emblem you want, you can't have both at the same time. But since the game is quite replayable, its also fun to try out both ways, because they result in drastically different play throughs and experiences.

It does sound really good. I take it there's still no sniff of a concrete release date for Europe?

I've still got the GBA ambassador game sitting there on my 3DS, untouched. I was going to play through it before buying this one, but it looks unlikely now.

So is there finally a release date? 2 years after Japan?

It's in 'April' for us Europeans. Even though we were told we were getting it last summer. The Americans are getting it on February 12th or something close to that, so it is finally coming.

Hmm, I'll believe that when I see it. Still, when it finally does come out this will probably be the first game I've bought at full price since the games I bought with the device.

You really should. It's a cracking little game which I completed twice back in the day, and have spent over 200 hours on my 3DS making my way through a hard playthrough.

Has a 3DS Advance Wars game been announced? That, plus FE are the sort of thing that will make me cave in and buy a 3DS...
Oh, just remembered that there's a 3DS Layton game. Maybe I'll get one for my birthday...

This will probably result in me picking up another 3DS. Eventually. They do seem to have a notoriously limited print run though so perhaps I'll pre-order regardless?

Fire Emblem was the clincher in my decision to buy a 3DS. Of course it also highlights why I was reluctant to buy a 3DS at all because of the region locking bullshit - we're unofficially getting it two months after the US, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's even further behind.

The GBA games are excellent. Replaying them might make the wait for the new one seem shorter...

I really hope they don't screw this up; I loved to first GBA Fire Emblem (even more than Advance Wars).

The number of must-have titles (for me at least) so far is pretty low. My deal-clincher were Mario 3D land and the Ocarina remake, together with the prospect of Paper Mario, Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion. Still didn't get Paper Mario due to the mixed reception (probably will eventually though) and the other two got delayed... Currently playing a DS Layton game (Pandora's Box, it's pretty good). Pullblox is also nice, but only for short bursts.

Talking about Advance Wars - if they do decide to do a 3DS version I really hope they go back to the original style and not the god-awful later ones.

I don't think this has been posted before, but there's a strategy vid been posted. Some small spoilers, but if you saw the October trailer already, probably nothing major. Supporting and pairing character seems to be a big thing now, which I guess means no more sending your paladin out on kamakazi missions :)

And a brand new character classes video. To be honest, most of them I recall from the GBA ambassador game - I think only a couple of the advanced classes are new, though I'm not sure they've shown them all here.
