How to get my girlfriend into gaming?

As most members of this website I'm big into gaming, however the girlfriend is not keen on this and moans whenever I start talking about games

With even grannies and grandads having a whale of a time on the wii (or so the adverts have led me to believe) there must be a way to make her start to enjoy games as with the wide range of consoles and such their must be some avenue I can lure her in with

any ideas?

Get her to watch you playing LA Noire and involve her in helping with the interrogation scenes. My mrs loved it and ended up playing the last two thirds for me. Only 'full sized' game I've got her into.

I made the mistake of loading up Mass Effect 2 for my gf over Christmas as I thought she might like it... nine hours later she was still playing the damn thing!

Having a girlfriend who games sounds great until she's hogging your console...

My wife loved Peggle and PvZ, but when I tried to get her to play the Portal 2 co-op with me it was like trying to explain quantum mechanics to a goose.

This worked for me - wait until she's asleep and wrap her up in cling film. Be careful not to wake her but ensure the cling film is wrapped tightly enough as to not allow her to move when she does wake. Now inject her with heroin. Now the next bit can be a little tricky but it'll be worth it in the long run. First of all you need to dress up in red dungarees, a little red hat, and grow a mustache. Next you staple her eyelids open, and for the next 3 hours dance around her silently. Don't say a word. As the 3rd hour approaches take off your pants and get an erection. Maintain the silent dancing. On the stroke of the 3rd hour shit heavily on her chest.

If that doesn't work you're fucked.

*if* she wants to try out a game *without* you *nagging* her into it – then I'd suggest something bright and immediately accessible and more importantly fun from the get go. Mario Kart – basically.

My girlfriend is from the same cloth of not understanding the joys of games. However, she's insanely competitive and hates being rubbish at something. So on the few occassions I've tried it's always ended really badly.

First there was the Blue Toad Murder Files as I got them free with Ps+. She did actually enjoy those. Mario Kart was a no go because she wouldn't accept the fact she was losing. Tried Gt5 with a wheel, told her she could pretend to drive a fast car. That turned out to be one of the more bizarre hours of my life. Me and my mates have a Top Gear style leaderboard for taking the Go-Kart around Autumn Ring Mini. We'd all just sit around doing a few laps each trying to beat the ghost. Well, she refused the ghost, wouldn't listen to anything about where to brake, or advice on lines to take. Why? Well apparently that would be cheating. So I had to sit in silence while she swore at the game for being nothing like driving, while having a go at me for encouraging her to play it because "I know how competitive she is!"

We've not tried again since.

My solution... I bought a laptop. The Tv (and with it the underused PS3) are hers now

My girlfriend has expressed an interest in "seeing what its all about". So far, we've looked at Scene It which she's vowed never to play again as I'm an irritating film nerd. Although she did spend nearly an hour creating her avatar and putting together an outfit.

She's curious about Limbo, and has heard a lot from "office people" about the Fable games.

Won't be playing the early CoDs, seeing as she's German...

Scene It is about as far as we go, she loves that. We do venture on Xbox versions of board games and whatnot, such as Trivial Pursuit. The only other things that she gives a shit about are point and click games (Sam & Max, Monkey Island, etc) and Rock Band.
