    Read some about it

Just like the last time I just got around acquiring the current version.

Well fresh from my build of the logging truck I've decided to go even more upmarket and return to the world of pneumatics with the unimog it's also going to be the most expensive lego model I've ever bought, although I suspect the technic shuttle I got for christmas years ago corrected for inflation would probably end up being more expensive and yes it is still built up and yes I also built the submarine version of it in the past. Yet to see a model that exceeds the shuttle for shear brilliance, the old black supercar comes close but the shuttle is so much cooler.

Also bought the current NXT 2.0 - still boxed new and was planning to give to my boy as his birthday present in March. Hmmm, wonder if I should flog it and wait for the EV3 now...

Probably not since it's going to be expensive when it launches and you'll only end up waiting a few years once again for it to drop.

@sport The NXT 2.0 is more than enough. Sure... the mobile phone connectivity seems nice but other than that the NXT 2.0 has plenty of fun in it.

    Too much tbh.

I almost prefere the first one. I just can't get my head around the studless newfangled Technics LEGO.

    Bah humbug!

I'm going to have a second bash at doing a short stop motion build, and wanted a couple of minifigs to put in it.
Never bought any before - picked some up yesterday. First two I opened - both the same!

Fortunately the other two were different, so I have a bit of an assortment.
Two American Football players, one stereotypical British businessman with bowler hat, briefcase and newspaper, and some alien overlord with a spanner for a hand, a wicked looking helmet and a blaster pistol.

I will not start collecting these things. I will not!

@boo my wife is brilliant at feeling what's in the bags by touch. There's actually an app that tells you what to "look" for and how to best identify the different figs in all the series.

Minifig Collector on Android. I've had no luck with it, the bumps they've used since series 3 are too difficult to recognise (your eyesight may vary)

According to this thread on brickset the next AFOL (Adult Fan Of Lego) Shopping day will be on Feb 2nd.

The Lego stores open an hour earlier than usual, and as long as you're an adult, you get to buy stuff at 15% off.

    Might be worth a look.

    Excellent customer service.

    /starts composing letter

    "Dear Mr Lego, Sir.

I went to the park last week with my Ultimate Collectors Series Millennium Falcon. Unfortunately, despite me having looked after it really, really well for years and years, a big dog ran off with it.

I've looked on the internet for another one, but they all seem to go for about 2,500, so could you please send me a replacement and I'll make sure I don't take it near any dogs in future.

    Thank you

    Boo (aged 8)"

2013 is the year of the snake after all.

So yeah, having read a bit more about Mindstorms EV3 all I can say is that... it sounds absolutely brilliant.

There's a robot snake that slithers along on wheels, and actually snaps out to bite your hand when the infrared sensor sees you there. You can shake a smartphone to make it hiss and strike, or tilt to use the phone's inertial sensors to steer.

    Hopefully soon.

Pro tip: the new Batman Mr. freeze (76000) set is the best value set this year. Exclusive Mr. freeze, exclusive Aquaman two vehicles, 20.

    Decisions, decisions.
The UCS Imperial Shuttle looks like it may be a future classic, and worth a bob or two in much the same way that the Millennium Falcon is.

There are some available on Amazon.com, and including shipping and customs and whatnot, it's about 219, which is actually 30 less than the RRP when it was on sale here.

To splurge or not to splurge...
