I thought it looked incredible. I them promptly shut the page down before my lady saw it and decided to make one herself.

    :o)

I thought it was incredible. I am, however, a little suspicious of Alice Finch. We're supposed to believe that she's a relative newcomer to Lego, but one of her first free builds is a 12 foot wide, gazillion brick version of Hogwarts, follwed up by a monster version of Rivendell (albeit working with someone else).

I mean, it's possible, but if I were to come home to Mrs Boo and say 'I've just discovered a new interest, and I want to take over half the house and spend the thick end of 20k on it', I can't see it flying somehow.

Still - whatever the backstory, yes that Rivendell build was epic.

Where do you find this stuff? I must admit I don't venture much further than Brickset.

Ordered. Nice find. Not had a Technic set since I was about 10.

[Edit] Wow, didn't realise it has an alternate build as well. Fantastic value. Bravo sir, bravo!
Quick update: 2 weeks after ordering I've received and sorted my chopper. The box says it's a 10 - 16 build. Is that how old you should be or how old it'll make you feel? It's certainly the latter for me!

    Heh.

I must say, pouring all my pieces of my malevolence into the box, mixing them all up, and then spending hours searching for the right piece takes me right back to being a kid.

Wish my mum hadnt thrown out all my legos :-(

I'm a novice. This is my first proper kit / build for 25+ years I suspect. I think in the past I'd have just emptied it all into the box and got stuck in. Alas, being a semi-organised, self-employed Dad I thought it advisable to sort the bits.

Maybe I'll go for the chaotic approach for the alternate build :D

[Edit] Had to stop my self from building any more tonight - up to page 17 in the first of three instruction books. Obviously I want to carry on, but have a feeling that as soon as this one's done I'll be looking for the next kit. Need to savor and enjoy and not spend any more cash...

Anyhows. Everyone I've met that actually buy the modulars warn me. It's a slipepry slope and before long you start trawling eBay for those rare early sets
I collect the modulars. I sold my Green Grocer on ebay last year. I immediately regretted doing it though. I see they're going for around 500 for an unopened one now

I've still not forgiven my mum for donating my complete airport shuttle monorail and box to a charity shop.

I only hope that some child is getting as much enjoyment as I got out of it rather than some collector putting it away in a corner somewhere and only ever looked at and not played with.

Finaly caved and opened my Imperial Shuttle last night. Then quickly had to abandon it. The bags aren't numbered and I don't have a space where I can spread all 2,600 pieces out for the build.

I'll try get some pictures up, I am tempted to try get the very early modulars but neither really grab me design wise so short of getting lucky I'll leave them.

With the rivendell thing, she could be pretty new to Lego - some big builds are basically about throwing money at it rather than design and technique.

    Spread?

Into the box and then spend hours searching!

My current 1100 piece set is taking me ages, but its very therapeutic.

This is why I'm, not bowled over by Rivendell, The Batcave, Hogwarts and that Space Medieval City.

Although looking close up there are usually a lot of really nice details etc. It just becomes a bit vulgar.

I got that one for my birthday earlier this year - it's a cracking set and lovely build - especially the complex gearing.

My eldest (4) stumbled across the Lego Ninjago TV programme on Netflix and having watched both seasons, is now demanding Ninjago for Christmas.

From us and a few relatives he'll be getting: this, this and this.

I know what I'll be doing on the 25th :D

Jabba's palace strikes me as more of a toy set than a fun build. Have you got R2D2? That's the best Star Wars set I've built.

    I also want the 180 x-wing!!!

I think that's the one a friend of mine got for her husband earlier this year.

    It's amazing if so :)

It was 20% off or something like that around Black Friday, might pop up again after Christmas if Lego have a sale.

I'm intrigued by getting back into this LEGO thing... and am seriously considering splurging my Christmas bonus on a massive piece of Technic.

    Mindstorm maybe?
