As the title suggests I'm looking for a local co-op game, something along the lines of Resident Evil 5, which was pretty good actually!

Borderlands, Hunted: The Demon's Forge, Dungeon Siege III. Loads more examples, but they're three that I've played. Hunted was shit in local co-op mind.

The First Templar also has couch co-op, if memory serves, although I've yet to try that.

Also the Tomb Raider XBLA/PSN game whose name eludes me, Castle Crashers, etc. etc. XBLA/PSN is rife with co-op gems, although not all as FPS/3PS as your original post requests.

Tomb Raider on XBLA was awesome. The Ghostbusters sanctum of slime not so much. I'm not really into side scrolling beat-em ups though.

Hunted and Dungeon Siege look interesting.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North has vertical split screen co-op.

    Trolley Jousting?
    I'm hilarious!

Good choice, I love the co-op on SC Conviction especially in local.

    Portable view - Never forget.

    With local?

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Took me ages to work out why you'd want to play games at your local co-op.

Anyway, another recommendation for gears. Any of the Halo games. Modern Warfare 1 and 2 have the excellent spec ops missions.

    Renegade Ops!

The Left 4 Dead games are both pretty good in local co-op: not as good as they are when playing with three others online, but still good fun.

Rayman Origins is a blast in co-op, up to 4 players.
