Just watching him in an pajama cricket after match interview. They've moved on to Malinga now, speaks volumes that he looks more like the more plausible human being when he clearly only had one small sachet of hair bleach and did the best he could.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Strictly speaking, is what Mumford & Sons doing any more offensive than what the Rolling Stones did? In terms of appropriation of another culture's music?

People love them though, they love a good rousing jig of a song - and why not? They certainly have the craft to hit their marks. I'm sure they are great fun live.

    But... but... but.... arrrrgghhhhh!

I thought it was a bit mental they were nominated for a million Grammys. Dunno what that's all about.

@localnotail They are great live (seen them twice).

I know it's cool to hate Mumford these days, but I really like them, and have liked alt-folk music and similar sub-genres for ages (Beruit, Devotchka, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy...).

Yes they're trying to make it cool, but fuck it, let somebody do it ;)

Oirish foot-stomping banjo-wanking for people who don't like music.

    Or:

    Second-rate faux-fi Bono-wannabees.

    Or:

Coldplay without the doe-eyes and lighter-waving.

    Or:

    BUMford & Sons - amirite?

It's a band than normos can like that sounds different to their Rihanna, therefore enabling them to dress like CUNTS and shop in Topman.

    Get bent.

I don't trust any band who put on stupid voices/accents that clearly aren't theirs when they sing.

For those Londoners of a geeky bent, I found the greatest clothes shop ever on the corner of Bateman St and Greek St in Soho. You know all the 'Classically Trained' / 'Nintendo family tree of consoles' / '1-Up' / Space Invaders T-Shirts you can get? These guys had knitted winter jumper versions. Really very cool indeed.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

This is my problem, really. They write lovely inoffensive songs, and are obviously skilled musicians, but somehow they stick in my ears as inauthentic and wrong. As if Ralph had stolen Ted's clothes and left the Hall pretending to be him.

I can think of numerous examples beyond the Stones of bands who have taken music from other cultures and made it their own, accents as well - most of British Hip Hop styles with an American accent after all. So why does Mumford & Sons bother me?
