Also, if I'm given the choice between a console with 5+ years of games, and a console with 18 months, it would take a very unusual set of circumstances to make me choose the latter. A sub-SMG Mario and a bunch of quirky and forgettable games and platformers won't do it.

It looks like I'm not alone.
Its not about the cash. Would hate to think of the money I have thrown at this in 30 odd years. Its about the games. I love videogames and hate missing out on a game I might fall in love with.

Sure its all about personal preference. Wii U games do nothing for you but I found them a real breath of fresh air.

There are literally one or two games I want to play on the WiiU. I can't buy a console for just two games.

If there were two games I wanted and everything else was equal (i.e. all the multi-platform games were also coming out) then sure, but to get a console for literally two games is something only a very few will do. And frankly most of them will wait until the console is dead and get it for nothing at that point.

@kalel Nothing wrong with that at all. I can understand it. If I wasnt such a must have type of person, I wouldnt have bought a PS4 for the very same reason.

I was actually responding to Cappy and the idea that someone could recommend a WiiU for purchase.

What same reason? None of what I just said applies to the PS4.

@kalel It does for me. The games I do own for the PS4 have been uber disappointing and there is nothing in the upcoming pipeline that appeals. With hindsight, I wouldnt have bought for the same reason you wont buy a Wii U. Yeah there are more 3rd party games on PS4 but prefer to play those on my PC at higher res and better framerates.

The difference is that you are going to potentially get another 8 years out of your PS4.

@nickthegun No doubt nicko, no doubt. Doesnt really take away from any enjoyment or value I feel Ive gotten from the Wii U mind. Obviously Im in a small minority. Had I not really enjoyed the games I would have sold it and popped in here from time to time for the lols.

so I seem to be constantly asking about controllers - its a real issue for Nintendo I think, in terms of impulse purchase...

I want to get a wii u for my little kids (and me) - so to start, I am thinking of Nintendoland, Wii U Party (get a remote), skylanders, and New Super Mario Bros U.

so with the gamepad and the remote from Wii U Party, I can play two players .. or do I need to add a nunchuck ? I would buy a nunchuck later when I start to dip into the Wii back catalogue, unless I could/must use it for 2-player on those 4 games above..
    help appreciated!

Just the extra Wii U remote from Party will do you fine for most of Wii U aParty itself, Nintendoland and Mario. You'll need a nunchuck for the on-foot section on the Metroid mini-game in Nintendoland, and Skylanders 2 player.

Party didn't last very long in our household (Nintendoland is just so much better) but it was a good deal with the remote bundled.

Metroid in Nintendoland needs nunchucks but, as it's one of the more difficult challenges, it might not be played much anyway if your kids are younger.

I'd probably get one nunchuck and enough extra remotes so everyone can play things like Ghost Mansion. The nunchuck will give you a few more options in some games (2 player Skylanders for example) and you will want the extra controllers for NSMBU and eventually Kart/3d World.

I know it's old news, but what did everyone else make of Nano Assault Neo? I know it reviewed poorly on this site, but i've recently got back into it again and i'm loving it. It's still got nothing on Geometry Wars 2, but it's still great fun to play. Looks stunning, too.

Very slim pickings review wise in this month's ONM. They did, however, like Ittle Dew (78). Appears to be a mish mash of Zelda and Sokoban.

Discovered that I had an activation code from the premium member stuff and bought the new star wars pinball tables for 2.99. Had a quick go and they all seem good fun. Also saw that Pure Chess has been released. I tried it on the ipad and thought the engine was ok so I may pick it up as I like a game of chess now and again.

I know Pure Chess has cross-platform play, but is that exclusively between the Wii U and 3DS, or have they included other formats? I only ask as it seems some upcoming indie games, like Cubemen 2, include PC, android and iPad/iPhone in cross-platform support. It not only bulks up the community, but you might be able to play Pure Chess with Nintendo players, without having to buy it again.

    @Raiko101

It would appear that the cross play is all formats v all formats. The ipad version was the free version so I may or may not buy it for the Wii U. I imagine I'd mostly be playing on the gamepad but the big screen would be nice too.

My gamepad has stopped working. The power button does nothing and it won't turn on even with a power cable plugged directly in to it. Anyone else had this? Can it be fixed?

Only by sending it away to Nintendo land for 3 months whilst Mario elves replace the innards with more Goombas

    True

It's still covered by warranty isn't it? Contact Nintendo's customer support and let them deal with it, I'd presume the pad has an anti-tamper seal so you can't really look for a possible fix without voiding the warranty.

Does the orange light come on when you plug the charger into it? Have you tried charging it with both cable and cradle methods? I'm wondering if the controller's battery isn't getting any power.

For anyone interested, Deus Ex is 9 on Amazon at the minute. ZombiU is 8 and Arkham City is a tenner. All worth a look at that price!

Im with pinky. I have enjoyed my Wii U so far. Its given me some fun experiences and the lack of games doesn't register for me as I spread my gaming over all my systems (pc, ps4, ps3, 3ds) so I always have something to play. The console I'm disappointed in the most at present is the ps4. The current line up is dire for my tastes but like the Wii U I bought it for the exclusives so will grab the ones I want as they release. If not then it will just become a dust magnet while I wait.

Really looking forward to MK8 and Bayonetta 2 though.

The PS4 has only been out for 4 months, wouldn't judge it too much just yet.
