    Dear everyone,

I'd be over the fucking moon of you could all just wind your necks in and allow some semblance of normality to descend. I don't expect hugs, kisses and BFF in every thread but the unutterable bullshit in here is as predictable as it is tedious.

So let's get this straight: the line is drawn here. You're (mostly) adults. You'll know when it's a bit of banter and when it's bullshit. You'll know when it's an interesting discussion about WiiU shit or when it's a pointless and random picture of a fucking Mario game that has no business being here or yet another "duuur the wii mote is shit" Beavis and Butthead chuckle marathon.

Let's tidy the thread up. I'd like it if it basically functioned by the time the last three good games for the system are actually released. Capisce?

    Love,

    Phattso.

To summarise, you want the thread back to how it was for the month ecosse was on holiday.

I like what you say, and would be interested in subscribing to your newsletter, but there's also enough non-Ecosse based horseshit in here to warrant an adjustment.

    Work with me here. :)

Hello! Shut up. Grow a thicker skin, don't rise to the bait, or fuck off. Or I'll fuck you off into the sun. You know you're your own worst enemy.

Same goes for the anti-Ecosse brigade (and, frankly, I'll have to trust my fellow mods to deal with me if I fall too far down that hole) I'm itching to baninate. I'm engorged for a banination.

That line I mentioned? Let's not cross it on the same fucking page as my post, eh?

Seems quite a lot of E-shop stuff as been announced or confirmed in the last couple of days. Didn't realise child of light was on wii u either.

I bought it off the back of good reviews. It was ok; well presented and charming. I mostly did not get on with it because the multiplayer was mostly a skill thing. So the best person always won.

Which sounds like the dream, but surprisingly wasn't as inevitably your parents and wife are always going to be a bit more useless than you. Lacking the teeth grinding unfairness of a blue shell to render everyone equal, it ended up a bit soulless. Definitely worth a look though.

You are literally the first person ive ever seen to argue that the blue shell levelling the playing field is a good thing.

I quite liked how Excite Truck on the Wii handled it with the ability to raise/lower the track. Also one of the few games to make the WiiMote feel worthy, with the tilty waggle control scheme.

Fuck but I loved that game. Graphics like the inside of a sphincter, but amazing fun.

I think you will also see the bit about tooth grinding.

What I think is that Mariokart started off as a skill game and developed into a party game. The blue shell is part of this. I think that against people of vastly differing skill, it can be a great leveler and turn a one sided game into something enjoyable for everyone.

But I also think on a purely technical level it was poor in later iterations as it became so common you ended up having to slow down and try and stay in second or hang back as the front runners were always punished so much they seldom won. But in earlier iterations it afforded more rare reversals that allowed you to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and I could live with it.

Mariokart has slowly morphed into a party game, and whilst I mourn what was lost (endless fevered competition on star cup as koopa and toad battled on the SNES) I can also celebrate playing the party game it had become with people like my dad.

I would advocate a simple tool like on Smash Bros where you can pick what power ups are available and their frequency, enabling you to tailor the game to the crowd. But I've also for years wanted the ability to create your own cups and lap settings and for some reason Nintendo have acted like dicks and not listened once.

    Too busy flaunting I reckon.

Excitetruck was fucking amazeballs, anyone who disagrees is a soulless fuck. Apart from in your face playability it also had great replay value as you figured out the best routes to max out the stars.

    A real underrated gem.

I hate the blue shell. I donít get how hitting someone in first when you're last evens the field.

Surely the lightning bolt would suffice?

    But we've been here.

Yeah, one of the few racers I've enjoyed, the bonkers air and speed you got were a great laugh. I'd love an online sequel.

Hmmm, I'm not really feeling your pitch.

Could you pose it as a faux 80's porno storyline? "Game and Wario came to fix the washing machine... gameplay ensued" kinda thing.

Also I was one of the 13 people who bought GameCube LAN adapters for eight player Mariokart. Despite the choppy frame rate it was brilliant. Now how difficult will it be to include that on the Wii U? And will they include it. Will they shite.

I bought it when it first came out, bar the excellent 'Gamer' (which has one of the better implementations of the Gamepad) I thought it was a pretty poor effort.
