It is that polish that no other videogames company does as consistently as Nintendo.

Art Direction counts for a lot. It's why Wind Waker still looks so great despite it being a touched up re-release of a 10 year old game.
Couldn't agree more, which is why I'm leaning towards picking up a Wii U when SM3D is released instead of my PS4 pre order.

All the extra graphical grunt being used to show more realistic cars, guns, footballs, explosions, collapsing buildings, streets, weather, etc leaves me cold. I play games to escape reality, not to be reminded of it.

@Grax Nintendo doing a Polish man makes my blood boil. And doing him consistently just makes it worse.

My Wii U Fat, sorry, I mean 'Fit' meter is awaiting stock pick on the new Nintendo UK store.

In other news, this week should bring Wii Party U and Deus Ex Gamepad Edition my way.

That's pretty much the last of my PS4 pre-order money gone now, back to being broke and having to trade stuff in to getafix.

I got Sonic, I have played an hour or so, did the first 4 levels.

I thought it was ok, looked to be lots of variety.
Graphics look good and it's very smooth.
I didn't get any glaring problems although it certainly doesn't have the level of polish that some of the recent Nintendo developed/published games have.
  • Deleted user 21 October 2013 14:14:22
I also got Sonic and im on world 4.

    Amazing graphics.
Nice mix between 3D and 2D levels.
Very playable, if ive died its because i fooked up not because the game killed me.
Good level design, lots to see and do.
Sonic Team should feel abit miffed to be fair.

If i had to put a number on it so far which i dont really like doing...id say an 8. Its not perfect but it certainly isnt bad.

I echo those Sonic thoughts. After a good few hours I've concluded the reviewers must be unbelievably shit at the game to experience the issues they're describing. As for the reviews saying it's impossible to build up a sense of speed, I assume they know that RT is sprint?

glad I'm not alone, I haven't played it much but my first impressions were a lot better than the reviews made out.

The time trials were fun, it is obvioulsy designed that you need to learn the best routes through the level.

One thing I did notice was that there doesn't appear to be a lot of extra lives floating around

It does seem like a game that's split opinion quite a bit. There are people that are really enjoying it, and people that aren't. It's also a good example to show how the different EGs are clearly seperate, given EG Italy gave it an 9 and EG UK gave it a 4. The world express entirely different sentiments too, with UK feeling Sonic feels wrong, but Italy feeling the control system allows a perfect hybrid between speed and exploration.

As I haven't played it, I can't really see which I'd agree more with, but if you're enjoying it that's all that matters for now :)

    @CompetitiveDad

Yes please! See, if they're doing that straight after the £199.99 Zelda pack last Friday, Christmas is undoubtedly going to have some ridiculous deals.

Still, if you wanted physical Wind Waker without all of the faceplate guff, it would work out pretty good right now.

On another tangent, I'm pretty crushed Nintendo don't have a fatter number of VC games on the Wii U VC - what is up with them?!

That's just how I generally feel. It's just opinions, after all. Everyone has them. Mine are mostly wrong for the stuff that others feel is rubbish ;) Though when I'm addressing someone else I will take a quick read to make sure I'm not being overtly offensive.

Speaking of rubbish, or probably at least, shopto have 007 Legends for 9.85. I've always fancied it so just went for it. In an attempt to clutch at straws I was going to share a positive review, but it seems there are literally none for it, on Wii U at least.

At a stretch, 8.5 from Gaming Nexus who say such amazingly positive things as:

"Naturally, enemies are alerted by dead bodies so you have to be careful not to leave dead henchmen just lying out in the open. The only problem is that you canít move bodies around and hide them. Even worse, stealth areas are positively packed with patrolling guards and cameras, so itís highly likely that even enemies youíve taken out off the beaten path will be discovered eventually, usually when youíre slowly sneaking toward the areaís exit."

I've just bought a turnip, haven't I :p But as ever I shall see what it's like for myself.

@acousticwilliam I agree totally, there is no excuse for it. Also whats stopping them releasing that 3 track demo of Mario Kart on the Eshop seeing as its not out until next year. More effort please Nintendo.

007 Legends might be good, though. Right? RIGHT!?

EG review snippets can easily be used to do a Hollywood style box quote:

"007 Legends has been covered in a camo-coloured Call of Duty paint "
"...an engaging romp through the history of the franchise..."
"The bar is raised...a saving grace."
    "multiplayer...is perfect"
"the greatest cinematic reboots in decades"

So it's a positive review, really, except all the words I missed out and the 3/10 score :)

Not yet. I believe that if someone makes the ten millionth post on the thousandth page of the Wii U thread then that's one of the signs of the end times.
