i went on amazon earlier when the machine was unavailble. and prices were 500. as soon as they were listed in stock, they plummented to 300 again.
were the 500 prices from amazon or makeplace traders? a search just shows the lowest available price, not where it comes from unless you click the link to the item listing. if amazon stock at 300 is out of stock but a marketplace trader is in stock selling at 500, their search will show 500 as the prife but not who is setting it. when amazon then get stock, the general search price will change. this means it can look like amazon is changing price on the fly when theyre just out of stock.

    @Jazzy_Geoff

my point was that while prices are set in one place it doesnt mean every shop in the same country is getting th same price info if they are setting prices by local instead of national demand. by sending staff out to rivals to swap price info they can then collude to rig the market.

    its a possibility.

OK. Fair point. What I meant to say is that the prices are set in head office nationally. There is no regional variation, it's all tied in with the website. I'm sure the sort of thing you describe does happen but not exactly how you describe it. I seem to remember GAME (?) sending staff out to supermarkets when they used to sell COD/FIFA/PES for 25 on launch day to buy up all the stock for resale. Bit I don't think it happens with CEX.

i still am on the whole! it amuses me that specific people who i wont name on a gaming forum whine that i play a lot of games and like talking about them. surely thats why we all registered in the first place?

I registered to enter a competition. I wish there was a competition to win a Wii U. I'd like one please. Any secret millionaires around here? I'll do moose stuff for you in exchange for a Wii U.

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

if theres no variation then fine. what i proposed as a possibility was done on the basis of something i couldnt see any other explanation for. if youre saying with firsthand experience there is no regional price setting then i accept that. after all, it doesnt really matter to me personally as i buy my games online instead of falling victim to the laughable state that is specialist gaming retail in this country.

I can say with first hand experience (I work for GAME) that there is no regional price setting. You do know that, like CEX, GAME's trade in prices are on the website?

cex sent staff out to buy stock when the wii launched. i remember it being reported after people caught them in the act.

Only the same as those bastards that buy gig tickets to resell at huge prices.

In those examples Supermarkets were selling the game below cost, so it's not surprising other stores wanted to get a few!

Nintendo Land is great fun, only just scratched the surface and not played with more then two players yet but it has made us laugh a lot and each game is expertly crafted. Simple concepts but well balanced even when it alters to accommodate the number of players. Difficulty curves are spot on so you get flustered but not frustrated
Played a bit of Assassins Creed 3 not much though, works well on the pad but its strangely quiet, when you open the game it seems like the volume has been turned down on the TV and the pad. Hopefully they will sort this out in an update.

ime they differ from what the actual stores offer. ive used the website to get an idea of my tradein but ended up being given a different quote at the counter. i assumed because it is cheaper o run a website despite competing with others than it is to operate bricks and mortar with higher maintenance fees, meaning they can sell on smaller margins whilst potentially getting more profit than stores.

ive deliberately put off playing it today becuse i suspect after the expo demos i played most of the games, that one with the platform on rails excluded, really need 4 players to come into their own. tomorrow i have that.

if its done to create a monopoly on stock in order to charge what you want theres a lot wrong with it. if it isnt illegal - which i would be genuinely surprised by - it is most certainly unethical.

Depends if you've gone on the same day or not really. When you check a trade in price on the website, it holds for that day in stores but could change the day after.

Wow, I'm surprised to see both the Basic and Premium model in stock at Amazon. Maybe I was wrong about needing to advertise it.
