Yeah the Mummers were probably a bit too hard to pull of for the series. A murderous circus might have broken the illusion a bit. You might also then have to go with the constant switcheroos over Harrenhall

    Decent compromise though.

Jaime is definitely captured by the Brave Companions while Robb is still alive, as he's brought to Bolton at Harrenhal before Bolton goes to the Twins and kills Robb. Catelyn dies moments after Robb, and Robb's bride survives as she's at Riverrun. At least in the books - I hear they've made a change to her in the series?

@Salaman Cersei ends up imprisoned a while after Joffrey's death, as Tommen is king for a while - long enough to marry Margaery and then for Cersei to start plotting against her and ultimately stitch herself up.
Also, Bolton explicitly tells Robb when he knifes him that the Kingslayer said hello or something like that.

It's basically how you know it was Bolton.

Yes mate - something like that. I feel like the writers were completely on the ball for this ep and they didn't seem to waste words at all so I was looking for more meaning then there probably was.

E.G The whole Pod thing seemed to me to be a setup for the Ros/Varys scene to illustrate how the Spider operates in grabbing information from his little birds...

Thank the gods I wasn't stoned - I'd probably be seeing story beats in the various ways trees were filmed in the ep ;)

Everybody should just calm down a little bit and have a nice cup of tea.

As much as I love the shaggy haired big nosed lug - I think Michael Bolton would be terrible miscasting.

@Shikasama Indeed he does, the bastard!

EDIT - Probably a poor choice of insult there...

In hindsight, I should probably have spoilered that part about Robb, but fuck it.

    "Jaime Lannister sends his regards."

Great moment and i see a Catelyn Stark sends her regards when/if revenge is had on him.

Does Mormont ever find out that his father is dead? I don't remember if he ever does?

He hasn't been shown to know. King's Landing knows, as does Sam in Oldtown, so it's possible word could have crossed the Narrow Sea via traders/sailors etc. I don't know if any would care enough to carry that news, though.

Yeah i cant see them caring about the Nights Watch but you often hear of gossip coming from across the sea and i was trying to think if it was ever mentioned to him but I'm guessing no.

I'm really enjoying this season of Game of Thrones on TV, Dany's Army looking pretty epic, now they will march off to glory, to greatness and to the eating of many many many MANY figs.

One thing that episode showed is that the series is absolutely flying along. That ep covered like quarter of the book. GRRM better pull his finger out of his arse or he will be writing adaptations before long.

    He totally called it

Saves Sam and Gilly on their way back to the Wall, Tells Sam to find Bran and bring him north of the wall. Dead guy many believe to be Jons Uncle Benjen Stark. Badass who rides a Elk and hunts down and kills the men behind the mutiny at Crasters

    Oh, him.

He's too obviously telegraphed as Benjen, I feel.

If he's not Benjen, I don't think there are any others characters north of the Wall we have heard about that he could be. Everyone else is in play somewhere, or 'dead', 'dead' sometimes being reversible in Westeros of course.

Ha, maybe it isn't obvious but that's how I saw it:

    - He disappears north of the Wall.
    - They go looking for him.
    - They don't find him, but get out of their depth.
    - They are saved by someone who seems to be on their side, dresses like he was in the Nightwatch and wears a 'Hi, my name is Benjen' nametag ;)

It fits with the whole increasing magic and warping effects as well. Summertime: no dragons, no wildfire, no white walkers. They all seem to be temperature-derived.

Only Bran is told he was killed long ago by one of the children of the forest. 3 years is not long for someone around 200 years old

@Alastair Do you have the paperback HBO tie-in version of Dance of Dragons? The one with the Theon chapter from WoW at the end? There's also an Arianne chapter here.

I don't know if there's anything else out there. Anyone? I know he's done a few readings here and there, but I don't know if there are any transcripts etc out there.

Has he finished the story yet?

I still haven't read any since the first two books. I refuse to get drawn into yet another series where you have to wait 5 years for the next book without knowing what happens
