Compared to all the other top-down 2D action RPGs? :D

    Heh, poor phrasing :)

As in, if i've never played a 2D Zelda but I've enjoyed all the 3D Zelda's will I enjoy it?
  • Deleted user 6 June 2011 20:11:58
    Yes.

You've... never played a 2D Zelda? In that case, you're in for a treat, as LA is arguably the best one. It's got the same Zelda charm as the 3D games, although you'll find it's probably more fiendish and trickier.

The news of this was my first SpotPass hit. Spotpass automatically connects to security-free hotspots?
  • Deleted user 7 June 2011 00:09:35
I got a Spotpass update tonight, telling me about the update. I've been waiting for the 7th to officially arrive, but no update yet. :(

That update makes it sound like the update was available already. Bah, no such luck! Roll on 5pm!

I've still been obsessively attempting updates all day today (just in case there was a stealth update), and will continue to do so now we've arrived at the correct actual date. I'll stay up until 5am at the latest/earliest, trying it every 15 minutes or so.

I know it's sad, but I regard this as the real launch, the day where it's functionality is finally all right there. The 3DS, as promised, will finally be in my hands, a browsing, Game Boy emulating machine full of awesome :)

Also, it seems from those that stick around for the eStore updates on DSi, it's usually about 2-3am they go up. That's why I'm staying up instead of being a big quitter!

So no chance these Nintendo Points I've got knocking about are going to be valid in the 3DS eShop I take it?

Guess I'll have to buy DSiWare and copy it across to get rid of them...

It's still a pretty awful update, unless I'm mistaken it's being launched with three games? Jeez, that's almost as bad as the actual 3DS launch.

Well it's certainly not an awful update, the worst you could reasonably say is it really shouldn't have been needed and should've been there from the start. You are right enough if you don't count the freebies, there are 3 purchasable ones on.

To be honest all I really, really want is Super Mario Land. Couple that with free ExciteBike, free Pokemon app and the Browser and I'm very happy indeed :)

Isn't it being updated on thursday? Or are they skipping this thursday?

To be fair, it's some pretty serious work getting those Game Boy ROMs off the cartridges and uploaded to their servers, if it was any easier then someone would have put them all on the internet years ag... oh.

To be actually fair, there are licensing issues to be resolved first*. Plus it needs to be classified by the relevant authorities for those regions.

*That don't apply to first-party games I'd imagine. Lets pretend they do though.

Unconfirmed rumour on GoNintendo says 2:40am. I do hope it's true, but probably not. I'm still staying up a bit longer though, just in case ;)
  • Deleted user 7 June 2011 02:17:20
I'm with you on that. I've got the Sony conference to keep me occupied in the mean time. I really just want to play some Excite Bike. I'm a proper retro gamer and I really want to see how its going to look. It will determine whether or not I invest in other gems in the future.
  • Deleted user 7 June 2011 02:43:55
    Nothing yet. :(

It wasn't my rumour! My rumour, that I'll start right now, is it'll be going up at 3am. Best bit is it'll either fail or coincidentally be right within 5 minutes, so it won't be drawn out.

If not, I officially quit. Tomorrow it'll have to be :(
  • Deleted user 7 June 2011 02:58:34
    Fuck you, DFawkes!! ;p
  • Deleted user 7 June 2011 02:58:56
I've got my fingers crossed. I'll be trying at 3:10, just to give it some time. It'll surely be up by the morning though!

Aww. I've just seen gameplay of Excitebike in 3D. I don't want to sleep now. :/

In all seriousness, if goes out worldwide at the same time, and the US is supposed to get it on the 6th, it has to be soon. Within the next couple of hours I think.

I'll report back should I manage successfully, I'm still up as I'm too excited about it :)

    I'm sad.
  • Deleted user 7 June 2011 03:33:42
Just tried again and nothing. I gave Pilotwings a quick spin for the first time in couple of weeks and its made my eyes go funny again. I forgot you can't jump in with full 3D on that game.

    Come on update...

Edit: There's about an hour and a half left if the Americans are to get the update on the 6th, as originally scheduled.

I'm trying every quarter hour. In the interims I google a bit, but there are rumours to cover every possibility! Too many, even if one was true you'd never know.

Taking into account time zones and things, it really had to be 5am at the latest or it's officially late for the good people of America. I think. I'm not sure. For all I know I'm asleep and dreaming this post.
  • Deleted user 7 June 2011 03:47:27
I'm off to watch some AVGN. I'll check back here between videos, if i'm still awake. Let me know if you get it man. I'll be jumping all over my 3DS straight away.

Apparently Nintendo posted a message on their official Facebook page (first i've heard of it) about 30 minutes ago, asking people to hold on as the update is coming. Don't know what that means.

I can imagine the store is going to pack in with the amount of people seemingly waiting for this update.

So anyone else here feel a bit cheated for getting the 3DS at launch price, now that PSP2 price-point has been announced?

I think Sony are going to be a much more dangerous competitor this time, around, and Nintendo haven't made it easy on themselves with the botched 3DS release. No real system sellers, an expensive price-point, and a main selling point that doesn't add much to the machine.
