    Hey all,

Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap and good design software for the mac? Something along the lines of Sweet Home 3D (which is great), but that can handle multiple floors. In particular, I need to be able to show facades.

    Thanks!

Google Sketchup looks ace, except that it won't do architectural drawings (i.e. with lengths/sizes etc marked on the drawing). Layout adds this, but it only comes with Sketchup Pro 8, which is 500 USD!

Not to seem like a Luddite, and perhaps you have specific requirements for software use but have you considered pen and paper?

Is this for a client or your own personal use? Sadly, other than using a drawing board and scanning your stuff in, my only personal experience is with Autocad which is mucho dollars.

    Good luck anyway!

If you can find a download of v7, it has it.

Autocad do a free browser based free version, AutocadWS if my memory serves me right.

You can import the results into sketchup if you want more accessible 3D.

I need to submit a planning application, and I was thinking it would look best if done on the computer. But I'm having such a nightmare getting sketchup to work that I might have to give up and go for pen and paper. :-/

    Thanks all. I'll keep trying.

    Recently came across draftsight.

    http://www.3ds.com/products/draftsight/overview/

A pretty good free CAD package if anyone is still interested.
Looks like I can finally stop using hooky AutoCAD.
