Same on PS3. I would hope the remastered versions would improve on this.

Ok so tonight has been totally awesome. I was just wondering around the woods and i spotted the dragon. Was an epic battle but i beat him! Some of my spells like High Bolide, seism and maelstrom are just so fun to cast. Magic is done so well in this game. Other games really should take note in my humble opinion. Still waiting for the trial to begin, but i think its tomorrow ingame so thats ok.

Just turned this off. Been playing since midday.

I guess that means I've settled into it at this stage :)

Got a lot more into this last night, finally finished the escort mission (killing two cyclops in the process) got back to gran soran (killing another cyclops) then just started ducking abot there. I am starting to get a feeling for the game and after buying the stilettos and upgrading them am doing a bit of damage. Gilly is immense and so much more helpful now I have taught her a few more spells. Also the advance trigger is pretty useful.

Sorcerer is a decent change of pace, but not as fun as wading in and wrecking the place. Have the vocation meter up to 5 so might swap over to a Magick Knight.

Once I got a few decent quests down this has turned into some good stuff! Currently 10 hours into my projected 12. Might have a break and order a takeaway :)
Yup this is exactly the thing. You have to stick at it a bit to get through the roughness and then you see the fun

Sounds like it's clicked proper. See what I mean about the fire boon?

Yup, advance trigger is the shit.

And you've finally fucking upgraded those weapons I told you 5 times to do ;)

@quadfather well, i found the guy you were talking about and he was actually selling the weapons so i bought it.

Fire Boon is immense, she keeps using holy boon though.

He'll sell even better stuff later. And/or you might find better stuff in the field. Either way, he can upgrade anything.

If you only want fire boon, just take holy boon off her skill list

I swap them out depending on what's coming next (if I can remember)

That would make too much sense :) her lightning attack trvilises the cyclops fight as they spend The entire time frozen on the spot :)

Yeah, I know what you mean - it's more about the approach to fights that saves your skin. Sometimes you can wade in if your party is setup right, and other times you have to stop, think, adjust accordingly and then off you go.

    Later on though, jesus

    And then the DLC...!

The DLC is funny - I had a decent party and within the first few rooms I was having to leggit with my tail between my legs. Can't wait to get back there this time round

For anyone a bit confused about the quests, this is a handy page.

On the right hand side, it lists the main quests in order in a sort of Stage format, and on the left hand side, you can see how the different stages unlock different side quests depending on which stage you're in.

It's still not crystal clear, but gives you an idea how the quest mechanic works in general.

And further down it gives a breakdown of who to speak to, to access these side quests.

I can see already that I've missed some.

I just found a rather cool looking flaming shield that can only be used by a warrior and raises Magic by 100 points or so.

Anybody know why a Warrior would need a magic stat?

    @Dizzy

Definitely only a warrior? Weird. They use 2 handers

    Oh dear :)

Yes, the 'fighting' tree if you like goes Fighter > Warrior. The fighter is a standard board and sword, whereas the Warrior generally doesn't give a toss about defense and instead is more suited to all out attack.

Try it out if you want - nowt stopping you

So I've been messing about with a third class, namely the Magic Archer. Once you unlock a few skills it's top fun!

Did the mission for Maximilian in the flooded temple thing and the Ricochet Shot is excellent in confined spaces.

Out of interest, when is a decent level to visit the Black Isle?

@FuzzyDucky Once you can take down the drake reasonably quickly you could think about having a stab at BBI, you probably won't get much further than the beholder. In general though, somewhere between 50 and 70.

It says level 45, but I'd go in at 70, personally

    Edit - maybe 60.

I'd go in at 45 with Everfall gear

Just beat the first Bitterblack boss and unlocked the first shortcut to its depths. What a fight! T'was a sight to behold.

    Good stuff indeed.

P.S. If you're comfortable and effective with your vocation, and you select your pawns carefully, I'd say lvl 30+ should be fine to get started in Bitterblack. I started at lvl 38, and I only skipped one optional fight thus far. That said, I know the place like the back of my hand.

It really depends - You can run through a lot of it, and cheese the bosses with throwblast. Or you can really take your time and focus on 1 monster at a time.

Some of the bosses are fucking hard though.

And death itself stalks the corridors who can shit you right up.

It won't be long before I take a sneaky romp through though, as the kit in there is well worth the risk.

There's also some items that are probably worth suicide running for and then go and carry on with the main game for a bit.

Playing on Xbox One S here. Anyone noticed the graphics at night look really bad? Like the gradient between shadows isn't smooth and appears in blocks?

    @SiroccoJetProp

I'm on PS4 so can't comment on the Xbox, but what I have noticed is that the stars in the sky look shat on the ps4. Everything else looks ok - it's just the stars and the night sky with bands of noticeable blacks

Not that it actually matters, since I'm normally trying to focus on staying alive most of the time.

@quadfather yea the bands of blacks etc. That's what I'm referring to. Not a bug then I assume.
