I do wonder if they aren't wasting their time with a follow-up series. Given how poorly the main show has fared when they've run out of source material, I'd think audiences may be grateful for GoT to be over and any spin-off will quickly go the way of Joey or Caprica.

It's going to be a race to the finish like between Martin and the show, even though there's another book to go it'll be a fucking miricle if he gets The Winds of Winter before the last season.

/Not a full book wanker yet.

Hardly. It'll be a race between the second last book and the last season of the show. Or, basically, a race between the show and a guy who's for years done anything except work on the fucking books. He's worked on the show and other shows in development and on almanacs and conventions and spin-offs and his tan.

Is anyone else struggling to imagine how the fuck they're going to give a satisfying resolution to the story in 6 episodes?

It's taken them 7 seasons to get the main antagonist to actually play a part, and then they're going to wrap them up in 6 episodes? Plus every other plot thread?

Well each episode is apparently around 90 minutes but yeah I thunk they could have kept the 10 episode seasons but the show runners want to move on.

Even if it were a normal season, I still don't see how they can do justice to that plotline in one season. 7 seasons of bulding and 1 of actual content isn't a great ratio.

Baffling that they'd go to 6 90 minute episodes instead of 10 54 minute episodes.

Maybe people are paid on a per-episode basis and they're looking to skimp out.

It's been a while since season 7 finished airing and I'm still struggling to think of anything particularly memorable about it. Even the very average season 5 was memorable (not always for the right reasons) but season 7? Nope, nothing. A case of all flash and no substance.

I thought season 7 was brilliant, and moved at a much faster pace, for the better, than many of the earlier series. That said, the slower pace and character building of earlier series is largely why I care about the characters at this point.

Cannot wait for season 8 in 2019, but share some of the concerns about how they'll be able to wrap it up sufficiently over 6 episodes, extended as they may be.

Yup. Easily the most significant events in the show so far. Everything else was pointless political bs.

It's going to be the brightest, sweetest most preservative laden candy- we'll enjoy the rush and then, rightfully, feel a bit guilty afterwards. They utterly fucked the tense political side of it last season.

But that was always going to happen. It's like that age old saying, "Politics don't mean nothing when there's a horde of ice zombies a coming"

It's like they saw what they wanted at the end of Season 7 and resolved to make it happen however they could. Even if it made no sense.

It was a fun series of episodes! But there was very little of substance, so it's not right up there with my favourite runs of the show.

I think there's very little chance that they'll be able to satisfactorily wrap everything up in 6 more episodes. But eh, I don't really mind - it'll be enjoyable to watch at the very least.

That is where i am coming down on it. The politics were great but when you tee up the entire series with magic ice zombies in the north, you know that at some point the sitting in a room talking will have to end (though there was still alot of sitting down and talking in season 7).
