You also need to complete all the levels using a certain amount of lives, I think. If you lose five lives on one level the Tanooki help suit appears, and if that happens you basically have to start again.
That's only a requirement to get the Stars to glow.

Getting 5 stars is just completing all levels with Mario, Luigi, Gold Flag, and all 3 coins.

That's for true! Don't know what you might be missing. Have you completed the extra final bonus level that unlocks when you've done everything else? It has a thank you message towards the end and mainly involves small floating blocks.

I haven't got the final bonus level. It's just weird I have done all of the things that supposedly give you five stars but I only get 4.
It is doing my head in, I am so close to finishing everything, but it just won't let me do it.

Have you done every level with Luigi and got every gold flag? if so maybe try playing the final levels again.

I think they have done all of that, though it might be worth check again, just in case. Symbols for Mario, Luigi and the golden flags all appear along the bottom of the top screen, so as long as they show up on every single level, you should be fine there.

I actually had this same issue with New Super Mario Bros on the DS years ago. It turned out I hadn't found a second exit for one of the ghost houses, or something like that. It's quite easy to overlook something so simple when you feel you've already exhausted every possibility.

its awesome!!!! secret levels really raise the bar and makes the game so much more then i would have thought possible, if NSMB2 is half of this game (the second half) it is good enough for me

It's a great game and show's how much Nintendo could do with a Mario game without having to spend years making it. I rate it more highly than Mario 64 or Sunshine. Not quite as good as Galaxy 1 & 2, but not far off either.

Downloadable worlds would have been a nice treat.

I love how people are spoilering the fact that there are secret levels. Why exactly?

    Get bent.

I'm at world 8-5 or 8-6, basically just got past Bowser then an extra level or two opened up.I understand that there are loads of levels that open up shortly but are they just remixes of the first 8 worlds or are they completely new?

I'm exactly where you are ecosse. Not sure if I'm going to need to go back for any missing stars or do the flag poles before all these new levels appear...

Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that there is no point of no return. Everything unlocked stays unlocked and you can go back and do whatever you like at any time :)

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

Basically my OG 3DS plus all my boxed games is being auctioned this week as I now have a 3DS XL and I’m going download only, If the incoming levels are totally new then I’ll re-buy the game but if they’re remixed existing levels I probably won’t bother…

So, new and awesome you say....

Just checked out the Super mario Wiki, it reads as though a lot of the levels are remixes or based on earlier levels. But it's definitely a challenge and I would certainly recommend playing it all the way through.

They're remixes of existing levels, but done awesomely. It's basically where the game really begins, imo.

Is there any way to stop Mario shouting 'Yahoo!' every bloody time I press 'jump'? It's driving me nuts.

I see getting all the flagpoles (the top I assume) and completing levels with so many lives... is this recorded anywhere, so I can see what ones I'm missing?

There is no trophy/achievement alternative for Nintendo I take it? A shame, as their games would be most suited to them, love to 100% a good game.
  • Deleted user 27 January 2014 12:31:50
Probably due to my clumsiness I went from 36 lives to 8 while progressing toward the end. Grrr.
Also is it just me or is the 3d-view point extremely arrow in this game. I experience blurr-o-vision (ghosting) way more than in other games.

    For 5 stars you need:

    Beat Bowser in world 8
Finish all levels in regular worlds
Get Every star medal that's not in a mystery box
Beat special world then beat the last level of world 8 again
Beat every level as both Mario and Luigi, and get a gold flag pole on every level.
    .

For shiny stars, you have to make sure you never die 5 times inside a level. If you do, shiny is gone. I didn't bother with that one.
  • Deleted user 27 January 2014 15:28:10
Completed. Well the main 'story' as I've seen the credits roll and the princess is saved.
Wow, what's this now I have access to special levels? Cool.
Not sure if I can be bothered. Is there some reward for beating those?

This is like a Man U customer leaving at half time after watching a slightly dull but worthy 0-0. Stick around for the thumping away win!
