Good video the first one, trailer on xbox live is good but only really shows cut scenes that have some awkward facial animations. From a review I saw said quiet buggy n needs more polish.

That top video made me want this so much more than i did before.

Gameinformer have gave it a 7.75 stating that it is buggy and uninspired gunplay.
Gun-play has been done to death so any execution is generally "uninspired" these days so I expect they just meant solid. Of course this game seems to focus on hand-to-hand rather than gun-play so poking at that bit seems odd?

Nonsense, 'gunplay' can be made interesting if it's attached to the right game systems.

I'm sure the game is fun to play etc, but don't make excuses for it until you have done.

7.75 is still a good score. I'll only be put off by scores under 6, and even then it won't matter much since there are already reviews in the 9's.

Fuck that, I never buy a game that scores anything less than 7.82
  • Deleted user 8 August 2012 11:53:19
It seems a bit forced though in that video.

The guy beats up a group of badguys, and then moves on to the next section, and declares "Now, this next section is a gun section so I need to steal a gun........"

Question is, does that mean you can't be creative about how you take on missions, buy guns etc..

    Raises questions, for me.

I'm sure you can shoot who you want and beat up who you want when you want. I don't think it's any less open than GTA. Loads of side stuff to do as well.

    Hope so.

Guns are only available at specific times I think.

Otherwise itís all down to punching people in the face.

That's a bit restricted, might be valid gameplay reasons for it though. Hopefully its not open world similar to la noire.

Too far down that road though and all you have is glorified quick time events.

Not trying to piss on the hype though, I've already paid for the Steam version.

Video games are glorified quick time events.

Apart from Skyrim, that's a slow time event.

Anywho, back to the game. Couple of videos worth watching :

Looks very slick and the game world looks surprisingly populated.

Combat video below, looks very polished for a sandbox game TBH. Lovely animations :

    Good videos.
I've seen the first one before but not by someone that knows what they are doing as well as that guy did. Really does look like fun.

Shall put an order in for it soon and hope that ShopTo get the copies out early, I'm jonesing for a session.

I wasn't questioning whether it can be interesting; I was questioning the use of "uninspired". I enjoy the systems in the Uncharted series and the easy change between gun-play and melee in the 3rd instalment; I just find FPS boring.

This would make sense given the location i.e. it's not the U.S.

Forgot about this until the last day or two and have just pre-ordered it from Amazon. Also asked for the week off following the release date :)

I need some time off so this was as good a reason as any.

I'm wondering how confusing it'll be for some people driving on the correct side of the road in a game for once! :-D

Limited edition is £30 from sainsburys using a voucher code. The main story is apparantly 14 hours long (which was considered short by the reviewer considering the genre)

Yeah that is kind of short actually. Expecting plenty of worthwhile side missions though to bump up the playtime.

Also I imagine this title will have the usual day one patch/title update which might fix some of the bugs reviewers are complaining about. If that's the case then that 7.75 can be seen as at least an 8.

hmm just watched all the linked videos and it looks a little floaty. It looks like a less smooth Batman. Also when driving around the streets are practically empty on the footpaths and when in combat there are no members of the public around. It all looks very LA Noire, controlled open world. Will wait to see opinions on here after release.

Want to pre-order but still unsure as to whether it is good or not. It doesn't help that the game is expected to go cheap so quickly.

@revan8 I've also been described as a floaty, less smooth Batman.

    Also, nice shoes.

Well it's out in America on Tuesday, so you'll have a selection of reviews and gamer's opinions to read around then, and enough time to cancel your pre-order if you don't like what you've read.

Links to the OPM/OXM reviews here - http://www.vg247.com/2012/08/08/sleeping-dogs-review-influx-begins/

Can understand if you're wary of early reviews giving games high scores (which is what they have given the game, 2 9/10s).

Decided against getting this on release, purely because there's 3 games out that I want within 7 days. Hopefully I will get it sent out on rental.

    It looks really good imo.

Some more gameplay. Missions do seem very similar. Combat/chase/car chase

Isn't that generally the problem with open world games? Certainly with LA Noire it was a case of do the investigation and ending in a chase with shoot out; I still haven't completed it.
