He could also pretend he's a racing driver, going faster than a train an everything

    He totally called it

Given my location there's tons of roads the army don't use much (especially the case at weekends) so I could get practice in real world conditions, which was very handy.

    This space left intentionally blank.

After my (first) instructor had decided I was okay to drive on roads supervised (rather than just doing start/stop/start/stop/start/stop in a carpark) he thought the New Forest would be the best place to do it.

Cue a large beast (memory fails if it was a cow or a horse - it was big and pissed off, whatever it was) walking out around a blind corner. Cue my very first emergency stop. Cue me being left with a lifelong fear of livestock on the roads.

There were some pretty horrible roads where I learnt which was unhelpful - steep hills, narrow country lanes and some blind junctions.

I took far more lessons than I should have because the instructor was a bit of a twat and made me increasingly paranoid, preventing me from relaxing properly. When I did the test the tester just started talking to me about all sorts of random things (he was new as well which might have helped).

It's still only after you pass your test that you really learn to drive and get to experience the pleasure of pretending you're a race driver with gear changes whilst going at 25 mph.

First instructor I had in manual was a bit of a dick, looking out the window with sunglasses on not taking any notice of what I was doing and then getting angry when I made a mistake. I got my own back though by ripping his handbrake clean off not a euphemism! :-)

First instructor I had stank of fags and liked to reach across and make sure my seatbelt was properly adjusted at least once a lesson

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Just got back from a drive with the gf. First we went to a quiet industrial place do I could get used to the car and then I drove home - about 5/10 minutes. She only shouted at me once :-)

Pretty pleased with myself since I've only had a 1 hour lesson after a 3 year break. Going to drive somewhere different in the morning - about a 40 minute journey in total.

    Slowly getting my confidence up.

Get as much practice as you can, try to enjoy it, it's basically one big video game. Except people might die. Fo realz.

Not booked. Like I said, I've had 1 lesson so far.

Looking to pass by end of March.

2 hour drive today. Really boosted my confidence. Proper lesson tomorrow for 2 hours. Keep this up and hopefully I can pass quickly. Practice in my own car with the gf is invaluable.

When I was learning to drive (back in the day) in my MkII Escort, if I was going to a mates house, or my mum wanted to go shopping she would let me drive my car to and fro with her supervising. It wasn't like a lesson, just normal driving including being told off by my mum (now replaced by my wife in the passenger seat) for going too fast etc.
My car was more like this than the first pic, but mine was white with a black vinyl roof. Oh yeah baby, I was cool.

This was my first car. Chicks pants used to literally explode when I pulled up in this hog. 0-60 in 4 minutes.

I know it's not the right place, but to redeem myself, my next car (after the Escort)was one of these. It was this colour but the little window grills at the back were chrome/silver plastic and the windows had a nice blueish tint to them.
edited because I've found another pic.
I never got tired of seeing a dash like that. Sunglasses in the cubby hole next to the radio, and I had fitted a newer radio cassette player in the large hole under the original radio.

Officially my first car was one of these beauties. I recovered it from a friends dads garage as a non runner when they moved house. He didn't want any money for it as it was (in his expert opinion) proper fucked. I stuck a battery in it, give it a basic service and the carbs needed a fiddle. Couldn't get insurance on it as it was a 1.8l twin carb engine and I was only 17 so I sold it to a bloke down the road for 75.

Some people learn to drive as soon as they are able, rather than putting it off like a girl.

Some dipshit whore nearly ran me over yesterday evening, fucking ran a red light as I was crossed the road, had the nerve to beep her horn at me too. Green man is showing you cunt, red light means you stop.
