Thought i'd start up a thread dedicated to any homebrew or custom FW releases relating to the PS3 as the other thread is pretty much just talking about how the encryption has been broken etc!

First release is here by the looks of things. Expect this to pick up a lot of momentum in the coming weeks!

There's a Wii homebrew thread and DS/PSP threads about the carts/CFW etc. I don't see why not as i'm not specifically talking about piracy as i don't and won't ever condone that. Just homebrew such as XBMC and as such.

    Hopefully that's ok :)

Piracy = illegally downloading and obtaining/using licensed or payable software that you don't own.

Homebrew = software created as freeware by the community that is available to install and use without paying.

    I think!

Brings back memories of XBMC :) I pray to god there's some incarnation of that on the PS3 in any way shape or form.

    Emulators!

The Mac emulation scene has been a bit quiet for the last five years or so, it would be nice to get currently supported emulators with certain to work controller support.

SCUMMVM! Launching direct from the XMB!

Not forgetting... Region free for everything.

Homebrew is what people say they want custom firmware for.

Piracy is what they actually want custom firmware for.

Apart from maybe 5 people who actually like tinkering with their gadgets.

Heh. I know there are genuine home brewers, but not nearly as many as you would think going by the number of people claiming to be. ;-)

Like my DS. I wanted to try out homebrew so got a flash cart. I found Lone Wolf DS (Which was worth the price alone of the cart) but apart from that never found a single use for it that wasn't illegal.

I'm one of the other ones! I've spent about 10 times longer tinkering with my PSP than playing games on it. Not a pirate game in site. I'm really anti-pirate these days, it devalues a system for me. My 5 Spectrum games for a fiver days are long gone.
