I find it weird that they haven't called him back. Wonder if its allowed within the agreement. He's probably the best striker on their books.

It's a bit of a no no unless you're in absolute desperation (which arguably they are I suppose), there's also quite a good chance it would complete disrupt his season and his development which would hurt them more in the long term

Drogba was already 26 when he signed for Chelsea.

The really scary thing is what it means for Belgium. The only thing they seem to be missing is a proper striker, but if Lukaku and Benteke continue to develop as they are now, that is a potentially terrifying attack line to sit ahead of the likes of Hazard, Dembele and Feilani.

They could seriously be contenders for Brazil. So much skill and strength.

Back line isn't too shabby either.

    Except for, obviously, Vermaelen.

They'll have a good first 11, but not much in the way of depth.

That we know of anyway. I'm wondering if this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The weird thing is, they dont seem to be coming from one particular club. Theres no belgian barcelona or...uhm... crewe that seems to be chucking these players out.

I think they've basically done exactly what France did in the 90s i.e. tapping into the colonies.

Oh there is a good bit of depth in MF from what I know, off the top of my head; Steven Defour, Felliani, Axel Witsel, Mirallas, Hazard, Dembele, Kevin De Bruyne (up and coming I suppose)

I'm sure there is a winger or attacking MF i'm forgetting too.

Its probably why the national team havent really done anything. Theres probably more languages there than one of Harrys dressing rooms.

Pretty sure Belgiums current starting 11 is the following :

    Mignolet
    Alderweireld - Kompany - Vermaelan - Vertonghen
    Witsel - Dembele - Fellaini - Hazard
    Lukaku - Benteke

Could be worth putting a 10 for the World Cup next year?

I work with a guy who is from the Belgian and he is a product of the youth system (he is unbelievably fucking good). From what he tells me the youth sstem is just way better run and, crucially, supported by the locals.

Players are compensated and developed from a young age, because the clubs can afford it and it takes the burden off parents as well.

This guy knows pretty much all of the current up and coming Belgian talent (hes about 23 himself); as well as technical development being way beyond what we and England do he was telling me that Fellianis dad used to make him jog 5km to and from training while he drove in front of him; so they have mental pushy parents too :).

This guy is still being paid to fly back to Belgium and play at the weekends for a third tier team (ACL injuries forced him out of the top level). If he is the kind of player they're producing that isn't even making it, they'll be fucking set for a long time.

If Tony Cascarino can play for Ireland, they can play for England.

What about Ireland great Clinton Morrison!!

Wenger thinks Arsenal have a chance of second:

Suppose they have a slight chance.

Phew, just when I was worried about Spurs players crowing a bit too much.

Although to be completely fair, as ever what he actually said is not what is implied by the headline strictly speaking.

Tony Cascarino deserves to be held in the same regard as all the other legendary Irish players.

Andy Townsend, Mick McCarthy, Mark Lawrenson, John Aldridge, Phil Babb......

Except a coupe of those were decent players for us so we didn't mind them so much.

    Cascarino though, fuck him.

I actually don't know. I just have so many strong meories of dreading him getting anywhere near the pitch and having to watch his awful, useless attempts at goal scoring.

Somebody just asked if I had to bet my house on who wouldn't finish in the top four out of Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea, who would I choose.

I found myself saying Spurs :(
