Registered 6 years agoClassing that as "good" news is very subjective.
Additionally, you can't win the CL every year so I'm not sure how representative that is of the true picture.

Registered 5 years agoI haven't seen a breakdown or anything but whilst the CL win helped, we have got to a few semi finals and one final in recent years still making a big loss so the money from that alone is probably not as big a factor as others like cutting costs and commercial deals with big (Russian) sponsers. I saw some stats recently that said worldwide we sold more shirts then Arsenal last year so it shows that as a "global brand" we have grown massively and when you look at the kind of money Utd, Barca and Bayern bring in we still have lots of room to grow. -

it would be pointless if it ends up back in Abramovichs pocket as he doesn't need it. We just have to please FIFA. -

They actual would be a cost to chelsea since they give them away for free at some of the bigger games.

Surely a spoiler would be telling us something we weren't expecting?
I kid

I'm late to the convo, but I did during the pre-season that many players and staff weren't happy, as he banished all the Spurs Sports Scientists to work with the development squad just so him and his fitness coach can do all the sessions and training.morriss wrote:
Really? Adeboyor unhappy? Lloris unhappy? Reports of a general backlash after the Wigan game? ITK coming out and saying it's all falling apart?
I missed that. I haven't heard of any internal difficulties at all.
Some can be taken with at least a pinch of salt, but nevertheless, lots of smoke for there to be no fire.
Not sure if it's changed since then. From the sound of things, though he hasn't gone all "chelsea" on them, he has done some of the things he tried to over at West London FC, and they weren't going down well from the start.
Plus there was that not-so-subtle tweet from Ekotto. -

Helps that your Oil Baron Boss effectively wrote off most of your debt, tied the others as equity, and you get a massive sponsorship deal from a Gas company somehow, through sheer coincidence, is connected to your owner.

FFP at it's finest. It's gonna change the landscape. LOL.

Registered 9 years agoHey, I'm not hating. Just telling the truth. Is it a lie? Haven't Chelsea (and City, and other clubs like PSG) easily found ways round it? Didn't abrom wipe out most of your debts? -

Registered 8 years agoThey fudged the numbers didn't they? Also the figure doesn't include any of the £20billion or so they spent on players this summer.

Registered 6 years agoWhen Abramovich gives them free money, it shows as debt on the books first, but then he effectively writes it off by turning it into equity. So effectively they just need to match their operating costs with their revenue and they'll break even, and he'll dope them on top to pay for big signings etc without it affecting the books. -

Who cares though. I'm far more interested in what FFP does for the clubs without sugar daddies.
