If the figures are to be believed, I don't see how any Spurs fan could say it is a bad idea to sell imo. I don't think we'd get that much next year, and a club our size is in no position to turn that sort of money down. Very few clubs would.
The flip side of the argument is that Bale is one of the best players in the world, and it's rare that Spurs get one, and pretty much impossible for us to get another one, so we should keep him.

And I get that, and if he wanted to stay I would prefer to keep him, but he obviously doesn't (and fair enough), so it's a moot point.
Exactly. He wants to go. We get offered insane amount of money. We sell.

Surely most sensible spurs fans understand that.

Either way, I wish him well and hope he is successful over there. That is one hell of a price tag to live up to so good luck with that!

It's said that in 2012 when Spurs were on the stock market (have they been taken off?) they were valued at 80-90mil.

The idea that Bale could be worth the same, or possibly even more is staggering.

    I mean, I've heard of a one-man team, but come on, one-man club? :p

Yes, we're no longer a PLC.

I think that's an extremely low valuation realistically. Where did that come from?

Just widely reported yesterday, initially by some BBC dude.

Sounds like bollocks spread on twitter and taken as fact, as usual. Spurs are worth vastly more than that. Forbes have them at 332 million without factoring in the squad value and before this year's Bale hype: http://www.forbes.com/teams/tottenham-hotspur/

AS think today a verbal agreement for Bale has been made between the clubs of 104 million (120 million Euros), face-to-face meeting on August 6th in America.

Defoe isn't so much selfish as single-minded. You give him the ball, and his only thought is how few a moves he can make to it being a shot on goal. It is imo what makes him a dangerous and useful player, and while it's frustrating when his form dips, it makes him utterly deadly when he's on fire. I personally wouldn't have him any other way.
Yeah, that's what I meant. When he's in form, smashing them in early at the near post etc, it looks great, but when he's not and ignores better placed players, it would drive me to distraction. It's also the reason AW shipped out IWW pretty sharpish (albeit he had a bit more creativity to his game imo)

To be fair I think the guy has had some serious bad luck off the field in recent years. Every time he seems to get his confidence up someone in his close family seems to die.

Soldado's a good buy. Is 26m too much though?

I think everyone is forgetting the real losers in any deal to take Bale to Real Madrid - EA Sports.

The poor dears, they've already done the front cover for FIFA 14...

I think people see the number in relation to the club buying. If City had paid that for him then people would say it was cheap.

Defoe's form dips more than it spikes, making him frustrating the majority of the time.

    :-D

Brilliant - but surely, this makes the transfer even more hilarious for the neutrals.

Fairly depressing story about Kenny Sansom.

My recollection of the past few seasons is that Defoe has a storming start, but fades away after xmas.

Not sure if its a fitness or confidence thing. Either way he seems to be a half season player most of the time.

Would still rather we kept him though. Just thought about Harry Kane - is he a striker, or AM? I've heard promising things about him though. And Tom Carrol. Hopefully they will get a chance this year.

Kane is a striker but won't make it imo. Hasn't really impressed me when I've seen him. Carroll though looks very promising.

Yeah I saw a little bit of Carroll in Europa League and he looked good. Confident on the ball but perhaps a little lightweight. But if he is good enough that shouldn't matter

Anyway, enough about Bale - we haven't done MotD in a few months:

How the fuck is this a shake up?!

About the only worthwhile conclusion is Vialli. He has some good things to say.

I quite like Lawro. Certainly better than the Alans.

@President_Weasel Indeed. You'd never see Bale sink so low.

Came here just to post this.
Takes the term "bench warmer" to a whole new level.

Sad thing is, expect so much more of this, especially at academy level. Football is notorious for spitting people out with little-to-no skills and support beyond football.

Good that Arsenal have said they're going to help him, that's nice.

Considering they've got a pound over 40m to spend on an arsehole, hope they can give him some good support.

Fairly similar story to Alan Hudson a few weeks ago. One of the best players my father in law saw down the old Vic, but riddled with bad investments, misfortune and drinking.

    Still my favourite:

It also looks to me like Guzan gives him a wanker gesture :-D

Because they're institutional c*nts of an old boys club.

You'd think they'd learn what a change in format can bring after the changes they made to Top Gear.
