And we were only really negative 92-95. In 89 and 91 we scored the most goals on the way to the title.

I'm thirty and I definitely remember the Grobellar pass back being used a great deal. I'm sure everyone else did it too but I definitely have a memory of that.

@Mr_Sleep wasn't the grobbelar pass back frequency one of the reasons the pass back rule was introduced?!

I remember the back passes but I never thought we were negative. We used to play some great football

grobbelaar single handedly brought the handling rule for goal keepers in by running it around like a twat and then picking it up the minute a forward got near him.

It was thought of after the 1990 World Cup apparently.

From my recollection there'd be some great football and once it was 1-0 or 2-0 it was back pass, pick up, throw out, back pass, pick up, piss about etc etc.

I think the back pass rule has been one of the better ones, although there have been recent examples of the referees seemingly forgetting there is one.

What ever happened to the 6 seccond rule? I have seen keepers hold the ball for much longer and never get reprimanded

And like the backpass rule itself. You see loads of them.

I always wonder about picking up. Technically, a 'keeper can't roll the ball out then pick it up can he?

If that's right, then technically they're not allowed to bounce the ball before a kick either? And every 'keeper does that.

And them scrapping the idiot 10 yard rule for dissent in favour of more bookings and then never booking anyone for dissent.

Ha, same. Turned it over eventually. The pitch was, frankly, disgraceful.

Weimann has been one of our most promising youth products for years, but he never really got noticed with Bannan and Albrighton coming through and making an impact. I always thought he shouldve been brought into the first team earlier. Doesn't really surprise me that some big clubs are circling.

Mr_Sleep, how do you feel about Weimann being linked with Inter, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund?

    Personally I can't believe its not B(enteke)utter
I'd say it's just paper talk bullshit at the moment. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he goes somewhere in the summer and it may well be a foreign club. However, as I said before, I'm not sure we have to sell and he's been the other standout this season apart from Guzan and Benteke.

It also very much depends on how much he and others buy into Lambert and the future he's building. I do hope the club have learned from Spurs in that selling your best players only leads down a dwindling path. With the exception of Ashley Young I don't think any of our big name sales in the last five years have paid off.

That used to be the rule, but was altered a while back to include some common sense. Similar to the change they made a couple of seasons ago that the ball is still in their control when it's tossed up in the process of kicking.

I think the important clause is 'released into play', which gives some leeway for bouncing it and the like.

My friend seems to think that if you take a penalty (not in a shootout) and it comes back off the woodwork without touching another player, then the same player isnt allowed to tap it in because it will be like the same player touching the ball twice. I want to rubbish him down, has anyone ever heard of this before?

We're getting into the realms of 'you are the ref' off of The Grauniad now.

The way I always understood it that as soon as the ball is struck its part of normal play and as such can be kicked by anyone.

Which, according to wiki is wrong. If it bounces off the keeper, fine, if it bounces off the woodwork, not fine.
