Best PS2 game? Hmmm I would have to say Socom 2, purely for the 100's of hours and great memories of playing online.

Yeah, that wins for me too. LAJILAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Ah, I remember playing Socom 1 & 2 to death. Managed 400+ hours on Socom 2 before the patch was released, and then racked up a further 300+ afterwards. Wouldn't rate it too highly though. It was just the best online experience you could get at the time.

For me, the PS2's highlights were Red Dead Revolver and TimeSplitters 2.

Grand Theft Auto III and Dragon Quest VIII for me. I still think GTA:SA is the best in the series, but for me GTA3 just had a massive impact on gaming and introduced me to true 3d free roaming.

DQVIII simply because it's probably the best JRPG around, definatly the finest on the system (though Persona 3/4 came close).

Loads of others that I could mention but ill be here all day if I went through all my favourite ps2 games.

I think GTA III was the most influential game last gen and I love DQ VIII too :)...although secretly I never completed it :(

GTA VC and MGS3 for sure top.

Manhunt had something special to it, not the best game, but diffrent in a good way. So did the suffering.

Red dead was okish, it was good fun, and GUN was RDR in early stages, also a good attempt, but only a attempt.

Tekken Tag, was the best fighting game ever!

    PES6 the best football game

and of course the GOW games, the POP games, the TENCHU games, the PS2 had so many good games, its incredible!

I wish I had online in the PS2 era because I wanted to give the Socom games ago.

Though other then the Socom series there wasn't really a reason to so I skipped since most of the PS2's best games were single player anyway.

Got online this gen though :p
hoping Socom 4 is as good as Socom 2.

MGS3 for me (best...boss battle...ever), and maybe Persona 4 is up there as well.

I'm really looking forward to playing as Snake again on the 3DS.

What I find strange, is there was less than 300,000 copies of Okami sold on the PS2 worldwide and only around 700,000 copies of Ico sold. Total sales currently for Okami are 650,000 with the majority on the Nintendo Wii. The PS2 and Wii have sold over 200 million consoles between them and over 2.25 billion games.

We don't have access to trustworthy Worldwide sales data for Okami but the reverse is more likely, it sold more on the PS2.

Japan the only region that does return official sales figures has over 200,000 sales for the PS2 version just by itself, with European and American sales on top I think we can be pretty certain the total went over 300,000.

It's the Wii version which has probably sold less than the internet guesstimates.

I don't think the system was that great, it was a let down in tech terms compared to the hype and what we were promised, the software was unmatched though.

In technical and design terms the Gamecube and Xbox were better.

funny you dont mention that xbox and gamecube released 18 months after the ps2 came out so yeah you would expect them to be more powerful.

ps2 was a good console in fact it was great. it was the days of gaming were game devs couldn't milk DLC from gamers.

I don't need to mention it as everyone knows that, doesn't change the facts, it wasn't much of a step up from the Dreamcast, just could handle far more polygons.

PS2 was all about polygons, very little video ram which was it's real problem.

It let you create game worlds with lots of grass and fabrics but the textures were always shit. That said some of the stuff that got put onto it was astonishing Black as a technical showcase is an astonishing feat and MGS3 was a sight to behold as well.
