    Hi,

Anyone still play this? Is the co op still viable? I completed it last year and haven't gone back and fancied trying magic class after my all conquering dark souls 2 one but I'm not doing o n s solo. Only played original as dex class so fancy another go as a no shield magic character.

I never realized but there are many similarities in the design. Maybe there are a lot of Berserk fans on the development team.

I'm sure that there was some influence, but I also think that they are both influenced by the same source, being tonnes of ancient western fantasy art and literature.

But FWIW, I fucking love both of them. I have most of the Berserk manga on my shelf, all three movies, and Demon's, Dark and Dark Souls II all platinumed.

If the rumors of Project Beast being another Souls like game coming soon to PS4 have any truth to them, I will jip-jop in my pants.

    @Telepathic.Geometry
Berserk reminds me of a modernized version of pulp literature*, the old sword and sorcery tales, like Robert E. Howard's Conan series.
With its violent themes and set in a world prior to the enlightenment period it runs counter to some of the modern ideals. Not much of modern literature does.

Demon's and Dark Souls have a similar quality. Its gameplay is a reflection of it as well. It was after all being criticized for being old school.

I hope that Project Beast can return more to that spirit. In that sense, I hope the budget isn't too big and they aim for the niche.

    * they used that term to deride it

Personally, I hope that Project Beast is a whole new franchise, as Demon's Souls II is a lock at some stage, so if we can get another brand new franchise, that'd be cool.

I think the best thing about all of these things - and Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones and whatnot - is that they are completely unpredictable. At least I never know what's going to happen next. And I love that...

Aye I'd like project beast to be something different. We've had 3 souls games now and, let's be fair, they have slightly lowered in quality after each iteration.

Be nice to see something different now

Maybe the content creation part of the team at From Software was working on Dark Souls 2 while a small team were working on concepts for a new game. Dark Souls 2 couldn't have had a long conceptualization phase, judging from how quickly it followed after Dark Souls 1, its DLC and the PC port. I believe Miyazaki is working since quite some time on Project Beast, on the basic ideas behind it. Probably already during the DLC and PC port phase.

Is that from the original series? Brilliant

2 hours strimming it yesterday. Now got to lay a membrane down and then spread 2 tons of gravel. Then a greenhouse, then finish decking, then finish raised beds, then start some steps then finally fucking sit down in the bastard thing with a beer!

Yarp, although I have only read the book but I'm not going to go anywhere near the film, it will almost certainly be shite.

At least you have the weather for it, lovely as it has been for the last week.

Films of it are bob. Series was fun though

Aye, it's supposed to be thunderstorms this week, but it's beaming up here at the moment. Can't really justify any DS when there's beers + jungles available

The book is great, really worth a read if you haven't.

Hah, I hope you at least go somewhat LARP on the jungle.

Yeah, I might pick it up actually. Sounds good.

I have a machete actually - might come in useful. Larp swords won't make a dent in this garden/jungle :)

I spent 10 minutes farming the Burg with 11 soft humanity and the golden covetous serpent ring. Dropped 4 Balder Side Swords, a full set of Balder armour and several titanites. quadfather must be cursed.

The quaddy curse in Dark Souls 2 is boredom as far as I can work out. :D

I reckon Quaddy got a ton of BSS drops.

The problem was all those death drops on the way to see what the shinies were ;)

It's certainly not the most powerful or versatile but it's bloody satisfying

Hang on, just having a reading fail, I thought you were talking about the BSS, not the BKH. The BKH has indeed very satisfying. Not as satisfying as the smashy splatty weapons. Or indeed the black knight axe, which was so much fun to use. It was ineffective quite often but when you got it to work it was great.

I really must get around to using it on DS2.

BSS was severely overrated when compared to the Uchi... Admittedly the Uchi in DS 1 is pretty much perfection.

You definitely should. The sword and the axe are great fun in DS. They're pretty unwieldy at times but satisfying to string together. I must give them a proper outing in DS2 as it might bring some of the fun back to it for me.

I wasn't happy with what they did to my beloved Uchi in DkS2.

No bleed effect, and piffling B to A (when upgraded) scaling. It's not like it was ridiculously OP in comparison to some other weapons either. The longsword also was ruined :(

Yeah they destroyed the Uchi in DkS2.

Bleed in general was nerfed beyond belief :(

Having done a playthrough with a bleed DEX/FAI build, I can concur that bleed as a stat is crap. Decent in PvP, but in PvE the insane drop in outright damage when infusing a weapon with a Bleed Stone does not come close to being outweighed by the crappy HP hit after the bleed effect has built. The bleed damage isn't even as much as in Dark 1, and you didn't have the base damage nerf to contend with. The new stamina effect seems to do nothing on AI enemies.

Dark 1 did it far better.
