@rumblesushi It's really nice, but it's absolutely huge compared to the 3ds, so naturally I'm holding it back a bit further. Not seeing any drop in picture quality on anyvgame so far, can't wait to start a new FE playthrough on it when I get it back from my cousin :-D

Edit: I dont think I answered your question right. The screen is a little less bright I think, but there's no loss in sharpness of picture from what I can see, which is quite impressive considering the size.

@TheMayorOfJugs OK, the reason I ask is I found the 3DS screen to be abysmal, much worse than expected. Not even as good as my DS Lite, the viewing angles were awful and the picture was washed out.

I heard the XL screen was better, so wondered if you found it to be a noticeable upgrade. I guess not though, considering you only consider it to not be a drop in PQ ;)

To be honest, I've only really played a few mario/luigi games yet. I'll try kh3d and fe over the weekend and post a comparison.
The colours in mk7 seem way more vibrant, if that helps? :-D What exactly did you find shit about the 3ds screen?

@FanBoysSuck The console remains unhacked, for now.

Games are tied to the console, so if you're wanting to transfer a game between consoles, you have to transfer them all. It also wipes the data clean from the 3DS you transfer from.

    Thanks for the reply.

Bugger on both counts. Ah well looks like it's back to the drawing board on that one.

@Armoured_Bear hope you get on with it. I personally found it to be nigh on unplayable :-(

I haven't tried it yet tbh, hopefully later today.
I've heard very mixed reports on the controls so I'm glad to get it cheap.

@Murbal - I'm with you. Perservered with KI for ages as everyone kept saying how great it was, but I just couldn't get on with it. Actually, just upgraded to an XL... wonder if it'd play better on that?

I keep meaning to dig out the original thumb stylus I got with my old Phat DS. I've a feeling that would help the KI ground control seem a bit less arbitrary.

I tried this, unreleased Wii U stuff and the Ps4.
Makes up a bit for missing the EG expo

So I tried out Ridge Racer, Kh3d, FE, OoT3d, KI, and SF4 to test out my xl like I told jigglefish I would( still don't understand *viewing angles* etc.). They're all the same, except bigger, looking nicer at times (especially ridge racer) because the 3ds weird pale backlight is gone.

So bigger, better, nicer to look at and a firmer grip, machine wise.

That's right people. The 3ds xl is a boob job. And a damn good one.

Has anyone had any experience of the Game download codes? Since it's a fiver cheaper to buy the code for X/Y from them rather than direct from the eShop I was considering it. They say they email the code shortly before release, but I don't really want to wait around if they cock it all up. Anyone bought one before?

    Edit: premature postulation.

If it's a boob job I'd absolutely hate it. Fake tits are the worse, the worst.

Oh god I love naturals jigglefish. I was just being dramatic is all. Being the mayor, I'm not adverse to all forms. But a firm, perky, just-the-right-size-for-the-lady pair of wazongas is the true meaning of Christmas. Even my gay friends love those rare perfect sets. No mysoginy or sexism or perversion intended atall to anyone.

Damn I love Ghost Recon Shadow Wars. Because there's no grinding, it's actually more of a "pure" strategy game than something like Fire Emblem (which I also love).

    An underappreciated gem.

I'm going to have to leave it a few weeks before buying Pokemon but Etrian Odyssey Untold will keep me going nicely. :)

    @Mola_Ram
Yeah, a launch game that was an upgraded DS one and it's still one of the best on the system. Fantastic little strategy game.

    @Santashi
You are always playing the stuff I'm waiting for :-)

I just ordered a 3ds XL from Amazon on a bit of an impulse. What are the must have games? I've got my eye on OoT and the new Pokemon, but there's gotta be a few others I've forgotten or not heard of.

It's been a belting year for the thing. You need to also look at Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, Monster Hunter, MArio 3D land...

Having had it for 6 months or so...
OOT - Just don't get it. Boring and souless.
3d Land - Rather fun, nothing innovative, but enjoyable while it briefly lasts.
Pilotwings - Would be embarressing as a 50p IOS release for the amount of content.
    Ghost Recon - Great fun
Luigis Mansion - Almost a classic, worth buying.
Monster Hunter - Unplayable without the control pad add on.
    Fire Emblem - Quite good.
Resident Evil - Enjoyed it, but gave up halfway through as without a second stick it controls horribly.
Donkey Kong Country - Great fun
Prof Layton - Same as all the others, personally I love it.

    Best game is streetpass.

I think Animal Crossing may be decent, but can't tell you as I lent the 3DS to my wife the day I bought it and have not been allowed to touch the console since. I assume from that it is rather engrossing.

I'd definitely suggest Monster Hunter 3, especially if you don't have a Wii U. It has lots of depth and a lot to content to it, even for the solo player. It's really satisfying to get all the bits of animals you slay and crafting your own set of armour to lord it over other monsters. Better with Wii U if you want online play, but I've always preferred MH as a portable experience.
  • Deleted user 9 October 2013 21:20:42
Monster Hunter 3 feels like a portable game. If it weren't for the swimming controls, i'd probably have gone with the 3DS version. The only time I use the second analog stick in the Wii U version was for swimming.
